    xbox won't read discs


    i have a day one edition xbox one, so it's about six years old. my issue is that it won't read any discs at all. i've tried to reset the console by holding the power button until it went off but that didn't help. also won't recognize my external hard drive.
    tried plugging into different usb ports and nothing. is my console defective? it's well out of warranty so i know microsoft won't repair it.

    My Xbox took 4 or 5 try's to read a disc but now (as soon as I got Forza 6) won't read any disc.

    You can either take the disc back for a replacement from where ever you bought it or if you want the digital version you would have to buy it again.

    Hey there!

    When you say you got a new one, do you mean a new disc or a new Xbox One console? Generally if your console isn't playing discs, that's not a good sign. You can check to see if it will read Xbox 360 Backward Compatible games or DVD's (not Blu-Rays) and if
    so, then the issue would seem to be isolated to the Blu-Ray aspect of the disc drive. Either way, that would indicate a disc drive that is starting to fail.

    If you would like to explore/consider the repair option, you can do so via the
    Online Service Center.
