xbox wont do anything, no matter what i try

After i start up my xbox it wont let me do anything. i'll try loading my profile and it will look as if its going to load up my unlock screen, but then it just doesnt. If i click directly on a game, or switch between screens it will let me, but if i try
to do anything it takes me back to the log in, and it wont let me bring up the setting to try deleting my profile or changing anything, and it wont let me log into my boyfriends profile to try any of that either.

Ive tried holding the button for 10 seconds and then waiting and turning it on, ive tried doing that and unplugging it and waiting 10 seconds before plugging it back in, ive tried that and then waiting for much longer to plug it back in. I've just left it
alone for a day, thinking maybe it wasnt an issue on my end, but it hasnt changed in days. ****

While I could guess that during the Beta Test of the dashboard some glitches
might happen (I'm not working for Xbox, so I can't say for sure), I have not yet had trouble connecting. My connection in the last few days was as stable as ever.

As stupid as it sounds: During my Ambassador chats with people, some disconnects were resolved by

clearing up a corrupted system cache or by
deleting and re-downloading your profile (the instructions to delete the profile without losing your game progress is at the bottom of the page).

The thing however still might be your ISP or something in your immediate surrounding.

For example: if you have your console set up to connect wirelessly, you said 2 months ago everything worked fine. Now a neighbour of yours got a baby a few weeks ago, and now they have a wireless baby monitor that interferes with your WLAN signal. Or maybe
your family bought a new Microwave oven.

Or some ISPs give you the hardware necessary to connect to their service. On these devices, some ISPs have a service backdoor where they can update the modem or router firmware, or make configuration changes, should their service require it.

So even if you didn't change any settings, your Provider might have pushed a firmware update or configuration change to your modem or router without you knowing it.

Another thing that might have changed: Your Internet Provider ran an advertisement in your area, and a lot of people signed up during the last two months. Some ISP's overbook

DSLAMs or
CMTSs. So during the day, when most of the people in your neighborhood are at work for example, the connection point from your ISP works fine. But in the evening hours, when everyone gets home, and starts to use the Internet, the connection point gets overladen
with traffic, and drops some connections.

Could you therefore try the following:

On your PC, open up a command prompt. Do this by pressing "Windowskey + R" then typing "cmd" into the small window and press "OK". If you own a Mac or Linux PC, simply open a Terminal window.

Then enter the following command:

ping www.google.com -t

If you have a Mac or Linux PC, simply omit the -t

This should show you rows upon rows of numbers.

Now go on Xbox Live and play. As soon as you get a disconnect, look at your computer screen. Should your PC not be near the console, you might scroll up a bit after you get to your PC.

Do the numbers change significantly during your disconnect? Or does the output show something completely different?

I'm sorry to hear about the issue. Since it sounds like the console is unresponsive, let's have you try factory resetting your console using the

offline system update tool. Hopefully that can help get you guys back online. If that doesn't do the trick, unfortunately the console may be in need of repairs. If it comes down to that, that process can be initiated via the
Online Service Center.
