Xbox won’t connect to any controller

Hello,

A few days back my Xbox controller just stopped responding to any input. I attempted to power cycle the controller and afterwards it would no longer connect, or even stay on for more than a few seconds.

I then attempted power cycling both the Xbox and the controller. No change. I also attempted to plug the controller directly onto the Xbox. No change. The controller does vibrate once when it’s first plugged in, but won’t connect and turns itself off after a few seconds.

I then tried updating the drivers on the controller by plugging it directly into my pc and using the Xbox accessories app. No change.

I then purchased a new controller. No change.

Seems like the issue is with the Xbox itself. Any suggestions on a fix?

This is not possible as no controller will connect to the Xbox so I cannot navigate the Xbox menu at all.

Since you have already performed a full power cycle, test the controller with a cable and even use a different controller. You should attempt a factory reset before considering a console repair

Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.

Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.

Select Reset console.

Yes, you can use the controller while connected to the console using usb cable. This won’t affect performance and won’t damage the controller. Using the controller wired of course means you don’t need to use batteries.

You can also update the controller while connected through USB cable.

Standard xbox one controllers require a micro USB cable. The elite series 2 and xbox adaptive controllers require USB type C cable.

I have done this it seems that since the moment I took the controller into the kitchen it won’t allow it to connect to the Xbox
