    XBOX wireless + Windows USB connector controller not working in games


    I had windows 10, and the controller worked well , it was like plug and play, but after i changed it to windows, the controller does not work in the game but I can still press the XBOX button to call out the Steam menu. and the controller worked in the Steam
    big picture mode too, but not in the games.

    Yes, but also no.

    Every Xbox One controller is wireless. However, when you plug it in via USB it becomes wired and sends the signal via wire instead of wireless (while also charging batteries, if you are using the charge-pack - or in the case of your question, it's using the power via cable instead of the batteries).

    This is in contrast to how Xbox 360 controllers work. X360 has both wireless and wired. An X360 wireless controller when plugged in via USB is still sending the signal wireless, but is getting power via the USB. This is why you can't plug an Xbox 360 wireless controller via USB into your computer and have it work, because the controller is still sending a wireless signal.

    This makes the Xbox One controllers great for both Xbox One and PC gaming, because you don't need to buy a 'wired' controller for it to work on the PC, you can just plug it in via USB and it'll send the signal via USB instead. I'm really glad Microsoft did this.

    One thing to note here. The problem also dont occur when you connect the controller with the old xbox wireless connector for windows.

    The problem is exclusively related to the bluetooth connection.

    The Xbox 360 controllers need a special wireless connector to work with Windows. The 360 controllers, different from the Xbox One controllers, do not send input signals over the charge and play cable to the computer or console, those are only for charging
    the batteries in the controller.

    You would need
    this accessory for it to work on a PC     or buy a specifically a wired Xbox 360 controller.

    I’m not sure if all of the 1st 4 Splinter Cell games have joystick available but Chaos Theory does. Steam has the SC1, CT and DA games.



    So back to my previous question regarding the contents of the Xbox 1 wireless controller box. Can anyone tell me if the controller comes with a USB connector cord and the wireless USB connector or that one or both must be purchased separately?

    Hi,

    Unlike the Xbox One controller which can be both wireless and wired, the wireless 360 controller only operates via wireless. The connector for the USB - or the 'Play and charge' - cable only sends power, not controller input data. Also the wireless protocol
    it uses is proprietary, in other words, it's not Bluetooth.

    You can use an wireless 360 controller on a PC, but you'll need an Xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver attached to your PC.

    The wireless 360 controllers do not work with Android, but the wired ones do.

    Was this a Xbox 360 controller with a fixed cable that you can NOT remove (a
    purely wired controller looks like this    , note the thin wire connection with the anti-kink part)? Or is it a wireless controller that you connected via a Play&Charge cable (the

    USB cable is removable and has a wide connector like this    )?

    The Play & Charge USB cable is ONLY transmitting power to the controller. It does NOT carry any controller commands.

    In order to use a wireless Xbox 360 controller, you would need the
    Wireless Gaming Receiver from Microsoft     as an accessory. The newer Wireless Adapters for Windows 10 only work with the Xbox One controllers, NOT with the Xbox 360 controllers.
