Xbox Wireless Headset Windows 10 Bluetooth Connection Issues

    Hello,

The Xbox Wireless Headset will not consistently show up in list of available Bluetooth devices on Windows 10. If I plug in USB-C cable, the device will connect but the audio is extremely choppy. I have followed instructions to reset the headset (plug in USB-C cable to headset, hold down power/mute buttons, plus in USB-C cable to PC) and to clear Bluetooth connections (hold down power/mute buttons until orange/white lights flash). I have reinstalled Bluetooth drivers.

I am able to connect the headset to an Xbox Series X and an Android cell phone over Bluetooth. I am able to connect other Bluetooth devices to Windows such as Logitech MX Master 2S, Logitech G915 TKL, and Google Pixel 5 phone.

    Information:

-Xbox Wireless Headset is on latest firmware (0.0.9.22).

-Windows 10 PC #1: Asus ROG Strix X570-I Gaming motherboard with Intel Bluetooth 5.0 (latest driver 22.70.2.1). Windows 10 Pro (21H1 19043.1237).

    -Windows 10 PC #2: Dell XPS13 with Broadcom Bluetooth 4.0 (latest driver 12.0.1.654). Windows 10 Pro (21H1 19043.1237).

Update: Randomly, the Xbox headset appeared in list of available Bluetooth devices, thankfully. I then noticed the audio is extremely choppy as usual. What seemed to work for me was going to Sound Settings and disabling the "Xbox Wireless Headset Hands-Free AG Audio" under Playback devices.

Audio via 2 Xbox one controllers via laptop

    Hello Algreco,

Thanks for keeping us updated. This function is possible according to a Bluetooth support article that compares connecting via the Wireless adapter : Connect
and troubleshoot Bluetooth on your Xbox One Wireless Controller

"Windows 10 - Xbox Wireless Controller and Xbox Stereo Headset – 2

Note Wireless connection requires Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows"

What happens if you try connecting the player 2 controller first, so that it is now considered player 1. Are you able to hear audio from the headset now? If not, then the controller could be faulty.

Whenever my laptop uses my XBOX wireless gaming headset's mic it lowers the volume of other sounds coming through my headphones how do i turn this off

After investigating the issue, I've found that the Xbox Wireless Headset requires a Bluetooth 4.2 or higher, an Xbox Wireless Adapter or compatible USB-C Cable in order to connect to Windows 10/11. You can find this information in the System Requirements section on the product page for the headset here: Xbox Wireless Headset | Xbox

Can you confirm that your Bluetooth version is compatible?

    - Press the Windows key + X

    - Select Device Manager

    - Find your Bluetooth device under the Bluetooth drop-down (ex: Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R))

    - Right click it and select Properties

    - Select the Advanced tab

You should see "Firmware Version: HCI XX.XXX / LMP XX.XXX" (The "X"s being place holders for the numerical values). Anything above LMP 8 meets or exceeds the firmware requirements.

You can find out more about this here: What Bluetooth version is on my PC? (microsoft.com)

Have you tried disconnecting from Bluetooth and using the headset via USB-C connection? This will verify if this is a Bluetooth connectivity issue or an issue with the device.

When you connected the headset to the PC to change options in the Xbox Accessories App, were you prompted to update the device? If not, have you tried updating the headset?

    Looking forward to hearing back,

    XBF Dom
