Have you tried hard resetting your Xbox?

-Hold down the power button for ten seconds till it shuts off, then wait 30 seconds to turn it back on.

Have you also tried switching instant on off and resetting your xbox then turning it back to instant on?

I have done the hard reset. I will try switching the instant on off and doing the reset.

I've tried syncing it several times. It works fine once the console is on, it just won't turn it on or turn off with the console, unless I do a hard reset.

To do a hard reset, press and hold the power button for about 5 seconds till the xbox turns off.

Wait a couple seconds and turn it back on.

Mine has been doing the same thing. I would have to turn off my headset then turn it back on and it would fix it. I have a wireless turtlebeach headset
