Xbox Wireless Headset (NEW Released March 2021) - No Menu or Movie Sound AT ALL from Xbox...

    Hello!

**** "SOLUTION" (work-around) was found to 1 of 2 bugs, see end of post ****

For clarity: I'm talking about the new Xbox SERIES X, not the Xbox One.

    1. I've confirmed Settings are different for Audio on older Xbox One vs the new Xbox Series X.
    2. For example, the new Xbox Series X has the optical audio plug completely
removed and all associated menu options are also deleted from its
      interface, etc. etc.
    3. Searching the internet is useless, all articles still point to the older Xbox One interface which has change on the Series X.
    4. If you have an older wired-Headset using the 3.5mm jack, the Xbox menu's HAVE CHANGED now, and are NOT what I see using this new WIRELESS headset, as confirmed on my older Xbox One.
    5. Under General > Volume & audio output, selecting Headset audio "Dolby Atmos for Headphones" that I paid $15 for, does NOTHING.
    6. Turning off/on the headset changes the "General > Volume & audio output" menu, by removing/adding a single sentence that audio is Now Optimized for Headsets, so that Proves the Xbox Series can see and is paired with this new Wireless Headset.... but it does NOTHING.
    7. Trying to change the "Speaker audio > HDMI audio = Off" results in an error that at least one audio output device must exist, but is does and it is working.
    8. When I turn off/on the new Wireless Headset, I hear the "chime" noise in the headset, so that Proves the Wireless Headset is paired and making sounds and is not "broken" per se.
    PROBLEM:

I've just received the new Xbox Wireless Headset (new March 2021 released version), from an early pre-order:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/xbox-wireless-headset/8z1dcql8z512?rtc=1&activetab=pivot%3aoverviewtab

Setting aside GAMES for the moment.... I'm currently unable to get ANY sound to redirect from my AV receiver into this headset for the Menus or Movies (e.g HBO Max cant see or use this headset?).

I specifically bought this headset to listen to movies in XBox app Dolby Atmos for Headsets which I also purchased, to keep my wife happy, but... it does not work either! Not even the DTS:X or ATMOS FOR HEADSETS APP DEMO feature works, They still sends ALL audio to the AV receiver and NOT the headset, when in Headset mode on the Xbox???

Basically, nothing happens after CONFIRMING the Xbox is in Headset mode and sees the new Headset; 100% of ALL sound goes through my AV receiver such as menu and HBO Max Movies, EVEN the DTS:X and Dolby Atmos for Headsets Audio Demo REFUSES to output to the Headset and only the AV receiver... Why?

Also, the old Xbox menu option I see all over the internet to force all audio to headset from older Xbox OS seems to now be removed in Xbox Series X's new interface??

    TROUBLESHOOTING:

    • I confirmed the headset is paired and identified by the Xbox Series
X, by going into the Xbox menu, when I turn on the headset the Audio
settings greys out the AV surround-sound options, and displays a new
single-sentence saying that I'm now in headset audio mode.
    • I confirmed the Xbox Series X's OS is the latest and is dated the day-before the Headset arrived (!!!), and makes special mention it JUST added new, initial support for this Xbox Wireless Headset in the integrated Accessories-Audio app.
I've checked the Xbox Known Issues page dated 3/16/21 (as of today 3/19/21), and there ARE what seems to be a few issues with work-arounds for this new Xbox Wireless Headset when used with Windows 10, but........ No mention of any issues with Xbox Series X/S:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/all/known-issues-on-xbox-series-xs/221c9d7f-dc91-4067-ba81-33ab671179b5

What am I doing wrong?? This is making me feel dumb and frustrated for something so simple. The Headset's instructions are just 3 pages of pictures of pushing the button and turning the knobs, zero guidance for this issue.

How do I force 100% of all audio to switch from my AV receiver into this headset - including menu and movies and yes even the Dolby Atmos for Headsets demo app - NOT JUST GAMES???

Why does this headset not "Empower The User" to control their own audio output at all whatsoever - WHERE are the Settings for this???

If it cannot do this simple task of total redirect of all audio to headsets for which this new official Microsoft Xbox headset was purchased, then it WILL be Returned for a full refund....... but I don't want to!!

p.s.: BUG REPORT FOR THIS HEADSET ON XBOX SERIES X (SEEMS TO BE ISSUE IN XBOX-OS UPDATED YESTERDAY)

    - THEY SHOULD ADD THIS TO "KNOWN ISSUES" PAGE:

    1. Change settings on Xbox Series X into AV receiver audio mode 5.1 surround-sound.

    2. Turn on headset, which then grays-out the AV receiver audio modes entirely.

    3. Turn off headset, which then seems to query my AV receiver's audio capabilities, then ignores my prior manual configuration and REVERTS ALL SETTINGS FOR AV RECEIVER TO FACTORY DEFAULTS once it's off Headset mode!?

*** Example: My AV receiver can do 7.1 audio but I only physically have 5.1 speakers, but it reverts back to 7.1 output and then I must manually set back to 5.1 every single time.

I'm really frustrated and disappointed right now, but maybe this new Xbox Wireless Headset and the Xbox Series X's OS was released half-baked without full support or functionality and IMMEDIATELY needs some major firmware updates (Latest is dated 17-March-2021 at launch, as of 19-March-2021)???

I say this because out-of-box experience of headset was it would NOT work at ALL until I did the firmware update on the Xbox AND on the Headset with updated Xbox Accessories app, which brings the Headset firmware to version 0.0.9.0, the latest as of today 19-March-2021....geesh, talk about waiting to the last-second to add the software update - literally day before it arrived - Which does not seem to be working as of 19-March-2021 at all.....??????.

    *** PARTIAL WORK-AROUND ****

I OPENED SRX CASE WITH MICROSOFT, THIS IS A KNOWN-ISSUE AND I THINK IT SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE FORMAL KNOWN-ISSUES ARTICLE..

AFTER doing EVERYTHING above, THEN ignore all logic and on the
    Xbox Series X, go to:

1.) Settings > General > Volume & audio output > Headset audio > TOGGLE the "Using HDMI audio headset" option (e.g. if unchecked, then check and uncheck it again).

    2.) Settings > General > Network settings >
Advanced settings > Alternate MAC address > CLEAR > Reboot the
    Xbox.

AUDIO NOW OUTPUTS ON THE WIRELESS HEADSET!! Xbox Wireless Headset (NEW Released March 2021) - No Menu or Movie Sound AT ALL from Xbox... :)

UNFORTUNATELY, IT DOES NOT FIX THE AV RECEIVER BEING RESET TO DEFAULT SETTINGS GLITCH. :-(

This is the most obscure bug I've ever seen - How a network setting can break the audio wireless headset I have no clue...

TURNING OFF/ON THE WIRELESS HEADSET STILL RESULTS IN RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS ALL AV RECEIVE SETTINGS (BUG).

**** THIS WORKAROUND NEEDS TO BE ADDED TO THE "KNOWN ISSUES" *****

    Thanks.

    :)

Xbox Wireless Headset (NEW Released March 2021) - No Menu or Movie Sound AT ALL from Xbox Series X into Headset... and apparent Bug? FOUND WORKAROUND 1 of 2 bugs NEED FW patch!

exact same issue mine is not playing any xbox sound but mic works and volume slider stuck on 0 all i did when i got them is pair them as it says online and in the manual and i installed the dolby access app worked fine for about 6 hours then i took a break leaving them on and my controller on (this is connected by 3m USB.C to the forward usb port on my series x) when i continued some 30-40 mins later i noticed no sound but they were making poweron and headset assigned sounds from the headset, i know my way around xbox so i check the dashboards guide volume section and the top volume bar was on far left and would not move, i restarted xbox bot normal and full cold boot pulling out the power for 2 mins on the series x reset the headset with holding down mic + powerbutton on headset and paired up again, nothing tried resetting all settings in the dolby app, accessories app and eventually my entire xbox, nothing so i gave up cus i know what it is version 0.9.90 firmware.... yep the firmware is not even v1 so this is essentially a prototype product their shipping and selling and from testing different systems (doesnt work the volume is STUCK on firmware level) pcs, my old xbox one x.
today i thought enough is enough ms is not even talking about this problem which from going on facebook and reddit is alot of people with the same problem i join the preview program on xbox and updated hoping maybe just maybe they fixed the mess that is "how ms handles sound inputs and outputs" in general but no nothing. then they magically worked when i installed the DTS unbound app, not even enable the feature in the app just installing it the damn app so its clearly a bug that none over there has a clue of fixing, and about 2 hours later leaving them on because this is how i will use them just like the controller, failing to work after turning them on again back to square 0. gonna try this workaround posted above i wouldnt be suprised if it works because so many layers of volume sliders and EQ a 5 year old could piece together is gonna be spasticated in use,
Theres nothing wrong with the product physically i know cus they work fine over everything but what their designed for... xbox.
And this is the only post of thread ive found so no trying the r"eplace them with a new" move. Wake the windows devs cus this is striking similar to problems i remember windows has had. why do people have not 1 or maybe 2 different ways of controlling audio but atleast 5.

Wireless headphones are a bit difficult when it comes too Xbox due to the communication protocol they use. Most 3rd party headphones require a dongle to the Xbox and even then they will probably need to be connected to the controller via a 3.5mm.

Xbox Recently announced a new wireless headset that connects directly to your Xbox and PC without the need for a dongle or 3.5mm. Set for release Next week on the 16th of March. https://www.xbox.com/en-US/accessories/headsets/xbox-wireless-headset

Personally, Im currently happy with my SteelSeries Arctis 9X and the rest of their headsets are pretty decent as well.

Audio is delayed when using DTS over optical.

I am very upset with the audio support with xbox one. It has been a nightmare trying to set up my surround sound and wireless 7.1 headset. I have had to settle with stereo sound on both. DTS does not have support with all the apps so some sound is dropped
when watching movies on netflix. Headsets do not support DTS and there is no DD support for digital output. There is no excuse for this. I have ben a big advocate for MS and the xbox one, but i am starting to think i made a mistake and should have made
the switch. With the recent announcement of xbox ones wired stereo headset priced at $89, i have never been more disappointed. It gives me little hope for DD support. PS4 released a headset priced at $99 with bluetooth support, wireless games audio, and 7.1
support. This is just another win in a long line of victorties for the PS4. it is mid feburary, MS just released an update and nothing major changed. When need this problem fixed!!!

Supposedly suppose to be released in the first Quarter of 2014 around Late Jan early March when all the new headsets release but my source of information could be off a bit.
