Xbox Wireless Elite Controller Home Button/ Xbox Button issues

I have been experiencing an issue for the past couple weeks where one of my Xbox One Wireless Elite Controllers ( I own two of them) has lost the ability to return to the home screen dashboard. The only way I can work around this issue is by performing
a hard reboot of the Xbox One console itself.

The major justification for the +/- $150.00 USD price tag for one of these "elite" wireless controllers is the addition of four magnetically removable "paddle" switches on the underside of the controller which gives gamers the ability to individually create
and save their desired button mapping layouts, stick speed, trigger pressures, and so on. These are designed to be switchable on the fly as a loadable "game profile" created and saved by the gamer via the Xbox One Accessories Application.

However, if you cannot return to the Xbox One home screen to access the Xbox One Accessories app once you begin playing a game or using an application like Netflix, etc. without manually rebooting the console itself, the value of this device plummets along
with its greatly reduced functionality.

I have now tried virtually anything and everything I can think of to determine the cause of this failure. It is only happening in the newer of the two Elite Wireless Controllers I've purchased. I'm a former Army Special Forces branch officer and now a senior
level corporate IT executive in the finance sector. I treat all of my equipment very well, and have not dropped or misused either unit. They are not exactly built from the high grade materials one might expect for such a costly unit - thin impact plastic
bumpers and weak springs for example. However, I treat these with care and am careful during their use and when I'm placing them in their charging cradle.

Given that my older Elite Controller still retains its ability to get to the home screen while playing a game or watching a video, the issue must be with the newer controller itself. Firmware is up to date, and nothing is damaged. Frankly, I'm at a total
loss. I do not wish to buy a third unit - spending $450.00 on game controllers for a game console that is now sells for around $300.00 is a bit much. The only other devices attached to my Xbox One are a pair oF Seagate External USB 1 TB Hard Drives. One
is the Gears of War edition and the other is a regular green unit.

If anyone reading this is having this problem or knows what the permanent fix is please post what you know. This is driving me nuts now!!!

How is your Elite Controller holding up?

There is the light clicking but the home button issue must be a defect as my home button works flawlessly.
