Xbox Wireless Controller Disconnecting on Windows 11

Welcome to the Xbox community. Thank you for sharing some of the troubleshooting steps you have already taken. You may have also tried some of the ones below, feel free to skip them if you have tried them and they didn’t work:

Have you completed all troubleshooting in the support article for Bluetooth controllers? This includes running Windows updates and updating the wireless controller.



The Xbox Wireless dongle requires it to be plugged in and then run windows updates, otherwise it may show a “bang” or an exclamation mark in the device manager, please make sure Windows is updated after plugging in the dongle.

Are other devices connected to blue tooth at the same time as the controller?

I have the same issues since buying a Windows 11 laptop then a Xbox controller. I've tried all the troubleshooting listed so many times. Here is an issue though... I can't see if I can even update the controller because the official in-the-box controller didn't come with a cable. I've tried numerous USB-C types that fit the port and nothing. The update 'requires' a plugged in device, maybe to ensure it stays powered? I've also tried all the physical solutions to be sure such as trying both rechargeable and disposable batteries (% shown in Bluetooth settings always has shown this to be fine) and making sure features such as vibrations that might jiggle batteries are off or making sure all contacts are clean. This has gone on for months. I even tried disabling all overlays including leaving or including the Xbox version which is way more difficult than it out to be. With the known buggy interaction between PC platforms and Overlays and graphic cards/drivers there could be a nice tidy section in the settings to help troubleshoot by DISABLING all such features at least in the Microsoft Xbox official software..

I'm sorry you are experiencing this with your Xbox Elite Series 2 controller.

If I may ask, does the disconnection still happen if you have connected your controller using a USB cable?

If yes, kindly try to update the controller's firmware using Windows PC to see if it works according to the official Xbox website: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/controller/update-xbox-wireless-controller

"Update your controller on Windows 10/11 by using the Xbox Accessories app:

If you don’t already have the app installed, get it in the Store:

Open the Xbox Accessories app.
Connect your Xbox Wireless Controller by using a USB cable or the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.

Things to keep in mind:

The Xbox Accessories app is available only on Windows 10/11.
Updating the controller over Bluetooth is not supported."

Then check if the disconnection would still occur.

If it's happening on different PC's then it would more than likely mean that either the adapter or the controller are the problem.

Would you please try having your PC forget the controller and disconnect. If it still continues to disconnect, try uninstalling and reinstalling the controller drivers by following our Wireless Controller Setup.
