    I hope someone can please help me as I am desperate.

    I recently bought the xbox wireless adapter and an elite controller for a lot of money, only to find that the wireless adapter just doesn't work. It is meant to be automatically detected by windows. The one I have is not. Tried it on 2 PCs, both fully updated.
    Device manager says "unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".

    I have deleted, uninstalled drivers, downloaded ones from microsoft catalog, installed half a dozen versions. None make the adapter work. The controller works fine via USB, but no matter what I try it is not recognised.

    I rang support and the person I spoke to was completely clueless and was no help. I don't understand how microsoft can just get away with a product that doesn't work.

    Has anyone fixed this please?!

    UPDATE: I tried all of the Windows 10 x64 Wireless Adapter drivers on this page:

    catalog.update.microsoft.com/.../Search.aspx    . None of them solved the problem.

    I've bought a xbox pc controller but it does not work properly.

    Generally these non-genuine Microsoft wired controllers. In my opinion it's better to get an Xbox One controller with the wireless adapter for Windows 10. It was the best thing I did, no problems so far

    Hi silverzc,

    The Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 connects directly to the controller and it doesn't require a connection through the BT dongle on your PC. You just have to plug it in, download the drivers, and then pair it directly from the adapter by pressing the
    BIND button on the controller and adapter. Some PC's and laptops have the wireless functionality built in for Xbox Wireless controllers, like Surface laptops for example, but this adapter lets you connect and should stay connected if you use USB and then go
    back to the adapter.

    Do you by any chance have any other BT capable devices to test and see if it's with the dongle or the controller's BT connection?
