Xbox Wireless Adapter not lighting up or turning on

I got an Xbox wireless adapter around January this year and it worked at one point on an old PC but eventually just stopped turning on after a few days. I am on a new PC now and plugged it in and it still does not turn on. I was wondering if this was a problem I could fix or if I need to buy an entirely new one.

    :)

Xbox Wireless Adapter not lighting up or turning on

Hello, DMFGames. Thanks for reaching out! My name is Lucas, and I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user just like you. I'll be happy to assist you today.

When you first plugged it into your new computer, was it recognized by the computer and the driver for the adapter was installed or it was not even recognized?

    Hi,

If you’re using the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10:

    1. Turn on your PC and sign in.
    2. Plug the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows into your PC. For more info, see
Set up the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.
    3. Turn on your controller by pressing the
Xboxbutton. When you turn on the controller, the
      Xbox button will start flashing.
    4. Press and hold the
Pair button on the Xbox Wireless Adapter. A small light will flash for several seconds.
    5. Press and hold the
Pairbutton on the top of the controller (the raised button). The
Xbox button on the controller will flash more rapidly – this means your controller is searching for the Xbox Wireless Adapter.
When connected, the Xbox button on the controller will stay lit.

Just as a question. Is it possible my wireless adapter is broken? I turned on my Xbox and the light was solid red and it said there were wireless networks with no signal strength, and then when I unplug it and plug it back in the light turns solid green
and all of a sudden I have full signal strength.

    HI DextrousUrvin8,

If you are receiving a solid red light on your wireless adapter, that means that it's not connected to an access point/wireless signal. At this time did you try to set up a wireless network connection through the Xbox?

Here is the support page with all the different light colors and what they mean. Of course it also despend on which adapter you have, the single antenna or the double antenna:

Xbox 360 s won't recognize internal wifi adapter?

    Adapter Hardware Checks

To actively fix adapter-recognition problems, check the adapter power light. If the Xbox 360 does not recognize that a wireless adapter even exists, make sure that the power light on the wireless adapter is lit up. If not, taking a close look at the connections
should do the trick. Disconnect and then reconnect the adapter cable, and make sure the USB connection is solid before continuing.

Restoring the Xbox 360 wireless network adapter factory defaults is another direct solution for the adapter hardware. Sometimes, new network settings will not be saved by the wireless adapter. If this happens, a restoration to factory default of the network
adapter hardware is necessary. First navigate to the "System" section in the Xbox 360 Dashboard, then click on the option "Restore Default Settings." After you do so, the light on the wireless adapter will fluctuate between red and green, and then stay on
red once the process is complete. Then fill in the new network settings and password and save them to finish the process.
