    Xbox Wired Controller not working on PC


    I have a wired 360 controller that I have been using for a few years, it has just suddenly stopped working. I have plugged it into all USB ports I have and I get no response from the controller at all.

    It wouldn't be a power issue.

    It's showing up in "Device Manager" though?

    Do me a favor, go to Start/Run and then type in "joy.cpl" and see what it says. If the controller shows up as "OK" make sure to set it at the "Preferred Device" under "Advanced" and the "Properties" dialog will let you see if you're actually getting inputs
    from the controller when you move a stick or hit a button.

    It was working fine the night before I posted here, then the next morning I plugged it in to the USB port I always use for it and got no response at all, so I tried the other USB ports and still got no response, so I don't know what has happened

    Hey markcurwen7! I would suggest trying the controller on a console or different PC, if it does not power on it will need to be replaced. If it powers on with a different PC, post back and let me know!

    Hiya!

    Paul from the Xbox Forums Team here to assist with the issue, it looks like you're trying to get a Xbox 360 controller to work on your pc. How is this controller connecting to your PC? Is it a wired controller or wireless controller? If it's a wireless 360
    controller there is a wireless dongle that would be needed to have the controller work on PC. Please let us know.

    Trying to use XBOX 360 controller with my PC

    My MadCatz 360 controller works with PC games, so yes third party wired controllers do work on the PC.

    You would have to get a USB version or Wireless with adapter controller to work on PC. The one I use is an Afterglow Wired Controller for Xbox Once on my PC.

    for a headset to work through the xbox controller on pc it (the controller) has to be wired or using the xbox wireless adapter, audio passthrough is not supported via bluetooth.
