Xbox will not format HDD for games and apps use.

Hey I have a 2 T HDD that I want to use for external storage of games on my xbox one. I've tried everything to get my xbox to format this drive andbit won't. If I get it to recognize the print to format when I try to I get all the way to the second " format
this drive now" and it kicks me back to the first screen showing the internal and external. With the external still being as media only.

I've already tried re partitioning, reformatting, deleting partitions, not formatting at all, restoring to default, turning off the option to have externals turn off when the Xbox shuts off, hard resetting the Xbox while HDD is still plugged in and vice
versa, unplugging it all and plugging it back in. ... Aside from throwing it against the wall is there anything I can do?

Is it possible to format it for the Xbox from the PC?

Please help. Running low on storage and patience.

Adding my music to an external xbox one hard drive

If you format your HDD with the console you can only use it for Games and Apps'

To use an external HDD you can put your media files on it using your PC and will be used by your console as a music/video storage if you have a USB 2 HDD it will automatically be used as the media HDD remember you cannot mix Games/apps with media on the
same HDD.

No sorry you can not use the same HDD for xbox 360 and xbox one both consoles format the HDD different

You need a USB 3 drive for it to work on the One for games, are you sure the one you have is USB 3?

AFAIK, game dvr saves are stored in the reserved part of the internal HDD. That internal storage space is limited so to allow extended clips the option to use an external HDD was added however it can only be used with an NTFS formatted HDD. An NTFS formatted
HDD cannot however be used to save games and apps which need an Xbox format so you will need to chose between the two usage cases or add a second external HDD if you wish to have both external games/apps storage and game dvr clips.

Can you provide what type of external HDD you are attempting to use EX: Seagate 2TB external HDD.

And also please let me know is the console detecting the HDD but it only uses it as media instead of formatting it to save games & apps.

What kind of drives are you using ? (HDD, SSD, NVME drive ?)

I assume they work properly with windows, but aren't detected by the xbox app.

Have you already tried to uninstall the xbox app and reinstall a fresh one ?

HDD (i believe) and SSD. Yes, windows recognizes the and are formatted in NTFS each, but the xbox app, even though it will let me choose one of those drives, doesn't seem to think that they are formatted. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.
