Xbox will not finish update on any games

My xbox will finish the install on multiple games but after it is installed it will not finish the update the games need to be played can i get some insight on to why this is happening?

cant download game updates

I bought forza 3 tried to download an update for it and the update did not finish downloading. I cleared cache on my harddrive and I put the disk in but the update did not finish downloading. I put I other games and the updates for those games would not
finish either. PLEASE HELP!

Things I have tried:

on a different console

tested xbl connection

cleared cache

Refuses to play games without a network connection

In addition to Maxen's point, I would also add that the "Resume Installation" notification will appear not just when a game hasn't finished its ORIGINAL install, but also any time an update downloads for that game. When that happens, the installation will
not actually finish until the next time you play the game. (With the new way games install and update, any time there is an update, it overwrites the old files for the game, essentially "re-installing" a newer version over the old one.)

So, in your instance, if, for example, an update to a game downloaded, but you disconnected and went to the holiday home before playing that game again, if I'm not mistaken, the network connection is required to finish downloading and installing the update.
So, the installation could not finish when the game was inserted, because the console couldn't find the network to finish the installation.

Also, if a download was in-progress at the moment you disconnected, that could be another thing to cause that error. The console knew certain games were mid-update, and the installation could not resume until the network was present again.

Not certain if either of these scenarios match exactly, but some thoughts on what could have caused the issue for you!

Games purchased digitally will automatically download and install the updates.

But games you purchased retail (i.e. disc-based) will require you putting the disc in the drive in order to finish the installation of the update.

PS4 updates both digital and disc media games regardless. I wish Xbox One would do this.

I find it utterly annoying to have to feed disc after disc into the X1 just to finish the installation of the update.

I've downloaded quite a few games now but whether it was a full digital download or installing a game from disk plus downloading any updates no game has taken more than about 20-25 minutes to finish.

If your internet is not the quickest you can try installing the game ( from disk ) whist not connected to Xbox LIVE, once finished connect online and download any updates, this has helped speed things up for others in the past.

Could be the update locking it up , get a couple of orders from major howard go back after finishing game , and can't receive any more until i restart my xbox , guessing there will be another update/patch to sort this ?

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the game, and hold off on any updates for the game until it has finished installing.

The reason for these big updates is because they happen for games that weren't completely finished. If a game needs 10GB of an update or more, then it clearly wasn't finished. The Xbox One should have came with a 1TB or even 2TB HDD. This day and age it
shouldn't have costed them that much to do that. And I suspect that future games will only get worse with the big updates.

But seriously, if a game requires a 50GB update, then it's clearly not a finished product.
