    XBox was stolen


    Hello -

    Unfortunately, I fell victim to a counterfeit exchange yesterday. I sold my son's Xbox on facebook marketplace, but I was paid with counterfeit money. To me, I feel like the Xbox was stolen since I was not legally paid for it.

    The Xbox still shows up under my Microsoft account - I never removed the device. I have reset my password and removed my payment information. I have filed a police report and turned over the counterfeit money to the authorities who are running it through their forensics system. I also provided the police with the serial number of the Xbox.

    I have tried to notify Microsoft just to let them know, but I am not sure if they would want to get involved - I don't know.

    I don't expect to recoup any money or retrieve the Xbox, but I would be oh-so satisfied if it could be disabled and rendered useless to the creep who did this to me and more importantly did this to my child who is saving for a new computer. If anyone has any advice or any further steps I could/should take, please let me know. I appreciate any help. Thank you all in advance!

    The police will sort out recovering your stolen XBox.

    Your insurance should sort out replacing your stolen XBox.

    Thanks! Law enforcement and Xbox were able to track the location of his stolen console. They recovered the majority of items that were stolen including his Xbox 360 :)
