Xbox want detect my external HD

My xbox want detect my external HD no more. For the past few months I have had a WD my book for external HD for my xbox. About week or two ago it stopped detecting the external HD. I have ordered a new USB 3.0 cord and changed the USB port and still nothing.
I have also changed ports and hard reset the xbox and still nothing too. Any help with this would be great, thank you.

    :)

Can you provide what type of external HDD you are attempting to use EX: Seagate 2TB external HDD.

And also please let me know is the console detecting the HDD but it only uses it as media instead of formatting it to save games & apps.

Sounds like there is something wrong with the external drive itself. It’s either corrupted or dying.

Plug it into a computer running Windows, and see if it’s at least detected. If it is detected, you may want to reformat the drive as NTFS once or twice (NOTE: this delete all data saved on it. You will have to reinstall all games and apps that were on it).
Plug it back into your Xbox, and follow the normal process to format and set up the drive for games.

If it isn’t detected at all, put the drive close to your ear. If you hear a repetitive pattern of clicking noises, that’s likely an indication that the drive is malfunctioning and probably dead, so it will need to be replaced. Depending on how long ago you’ve
purchased it, you can either see if it’s possible to return to the store for an exchange, or contact Western Digital to take advantage of any manufacturer’s warranty they have on the external drive.

  5. Just to add to what Internet Expert has said.

When you connect up an external hard drive to a PC that has been formatted to the Xbox One, it won't be detected straight away - this is normal. To enable the drive again, you need to run the Windows 'disk management' tool which can be found by searching
for it in Windows. This tool is available in all versions of Windows. If your hard drive is still physically working - without any clicking sounds - it will be detected here and you will be prompted to 'Initialise the device'.

If your hard drive is not being detected here, and or is making odd noises, it has failed, and you'll need to replace it.

If you can get Windows to detect it and it shows up in your computer now, you should be able to re-attach it to your console again and re-format it from there.

I had a similar issue last year. My external hard drive stopped being detected. Luckily, it hadn't failed and I was able to get it working again using Windows.

How many USB ports with the XBOX 1 X read? and how big a external HD can I use for movies on the XBOX1 X?

    Hello Frank,

Please take the time to review this article. It goes over troubleshooting steps to help the console read the external storage as well as the requirements :

Troubleshoot external storage detection on Xbox One

    Hope this helps!
Thanks for the time and response. The xbox 1 x now sees the 5TB HD, however, it does not read the information on HD(movie files-MP4\NTFS). This only happens with a HD larger than 2TB. what am I missing? Thanks for the time. Frank

External hard drive not reading games

    Hi Jack,

Thanks for coming to the forums. Sorry for the issue with your external hard drive. With external hard drives this can happen. In this case yes you will lose all the installed games. Unfortunately, there is no way around this as it sounds like the external
HD is corrupt. In order to use for games you will need to reformat. You can try the troubleshooting steps for a

    external HD to being detected
    .

    Thanks,

    Brad
