  1. Xbox Video (Movies on Demand) Not 5.1 Anymore

Is anyone having an issue with this?

Previously there was an issue with some movies being in 5.1 Surround Sound and some not, ("PCM2.0" displayed on my receiver for some and "Dolby Digital 5.1" for others connected via optical audio). This
correlates to the trailers being 5.1 or 2.0, if the trailer was 5.1 the movie was 5.1 and the latter, now regardless of the trailer, the movies so far for the last 3 months are ALL 2.0, and the download file size has changed, on average a 1080p movie was 10GB
in size, now all 1080p options are only around 5GB in size.

This is a disappointing step forward and certainly doesn't help those trying to do the right thing by using legitimate sources of entertainment.

Could Xbox Please address this issue, my closest video store is only open when my local grocery store is open and is 3 meters tall by 1m2 and a touch screen.

    :)

5.1 surround sound for video apps

    hi,

Are any of the video apps like Amazon Video, Epix, Redbox instant play movies in 5.1 dolby surround sound? I just recently moved my equipment form one room to another and noticed that when usig one of these video apps; the sound is not in 5.1. When I play
video games and in the menu I believe i am in 5.1 as I have sound coming from rear speakers.

    THanks

Xbox one digital games and movies transfer.

From what I've read, Games(on demand, arcade, indie) will NOT transfer over to Xbox One.

But movies...not sure they mentioned anything...I don't see why those won't transfer over....

@Mister Switch do you know about movies/tv shows purchased on Xbox Video?

Xbox Video (Movies on Demand) Not 5.1 Anymore

    Hi there,

Can you let me know what country you're in as well as the exact titles of the movies you're referring to? I'd like to see if the issues reproduces for me, and if it does, follow up with the right people to find out if this is by design or something that
    we can get fixed.

  5. Hi airmattdog

I am located in Australia (aka Australasia)

    Movie titles are as follows.

The Water Diviner -- Trailer 2.0 Movie 2.0

    Stonehearst Asylum - Trailer 5.1 Movie 2.0

    Horns -- Trailer 5.1 Movie 2.0

Hector And the Search for Happiness -- Trailer 5.1 Movie 2.0

    Good People -- Trailer 5.1Movie 2.0

Lets Be Cops -- Trailer 5.1 Movie 2.0

I could sit here and run a list of pretty much every movie made available for rent in the last 6 to 12 months, you can easily tell by the download size, 1080P movies in 5.1 Surround sound are about 9 - 12 GigaBytes, 1080P movies without surround sound (2.0
    Stereo) are around 4-6GB.

This issue has been raised previously on these forums, a solution had been promised, but it is evident that the issue has been ignored. Please do not let this request for correcting this issue fall of deaf ears again.

    Cheers.

Thanks, I'll take a look at these titles.

The previous issue was resolved, while it may sound like the same thing, it's possible that it's not. Just to be clear you're downloading this (not streaming) onto your Xbox 360, correct?

I've streamed and downloaded Let's Be Cops and Good People and both movies are playing with 5.1 audio.

It sounds like the issue might lie with your setup at home, either the settings on your equipment or the cables you're using.

  8. Xbox Video (Movies on Demand) Not 5.1 Anymore

I'll give another title a go over the weekend and report back.

I am downloading them to the Xbox (Streaming sucks at max 400kb/s) then playing them within 14 days.

My setup in the lounge is

    Xbox 360 --> HDMI --> TV

    Xbox 360 --> Toslink --> Optical Input (Bose Lifestyle 48 5.1)

    Xbox 360 settings

    Settings>System>Console Settings>Audio>Digital Output> |Dolby Digital 5.1|

Playing a 5.1 DVD with 5.1 Audio, Displays and plays as 5.1 Audio on the receiver.

Believe me the problem does not lie at my end.

    I'll keep you posted.

    Thanks.

  9. Better late than never.. .but .. I hired out the movie Left Behind (nicholas cage 2014), the 1080P HD download was about 6Gb, I waited until it had downloaded completely, navigating from startup to the "my movies" section is Dolby Digital 5.1 on the receiver,
as soon as I press play on the movie, it switched over to PCM2.0, and was yet again, not in surround sound. Your more than welcome to give it a shot too, but if your downloading from a server located outside Australia, chances are what you and I get for our
    money will be different.

I've confirmed that this movie has 5.1 audio as well. We don't upload different files for different countries, I'm getting the exact same file that you're downloading even though I'm located in the US and using an Australian account.

My theory is that the optical cable and/or the Bose unit are not completely HDCP compatible, so the audio is being downgraded to stereo during playback. Whereas the preview that plays doesn't have the HDCP limitation, thus it plays in 5.1 audio where applicable.

Does the Bose unit not have HDMI capability? Do you have the ability to try a different home theater solution?

  11. I also have another Xbox 360 Plugged into a Computer Monito's HDMI port and a Logitech Z906 Dolby Digital/DTS THX Certified 5.1 Sound system attached to the 360 using an S/PDIF (toslink) optical audio cable. I replicate all the above listed issues I'd raised
previously. If you don't believe me, your welcome to come round and have gander yourself. You better get this stuff fixed mate, Netflix is here.... tick tock.

  12. I forgot to mention, I've also tested this on another xbox located accross town connected to a HDMI compliant Sony HT-M77 7.2 Channel MUTEKI Home Theatre System. It's one month old, and the Xbox is connected directly into a 100/40Mbit internet connection.
Same problem different suburb. I'm sick of beta testing.. I'm done. Not a movie store for flipping miles now and can't get a decent movie with surround sound even with the Au$tralia Tax.

  14. I'm having the exact same issue.

I've been using Xbox Video as my main video store for years(?) and for the last few months everything is now in 2 channel. I'm so disappointed with this especially after buying a $50 card and being stuck with 2 channel movies. I've also noticed the movie
selection is greatly reduced. But if the sound issue isn't resolved I'll have to find a new place to download.

I'm from Canada, Xbox 360, and my system and cables haven't changed.

  15. I figured it was just Australia, bandwidth is treated like gold in this country, no thanks to the government *** over their own people and allowing, in fact reinforcing a one company approach, keeping the costs high so they can't compete with Foxtel. Thanks
    Rupe.

10GB of bandwidth in this technological black-water eats a fair chunk of your profit margin, so it comes as no surprise if this is the case.

One step foward, two steps back, Australia... the only country going backwards.
