Xbox uses cloud save instead of asking me if I want to use local or cloud save

So I have been playing a game offline for a few weeks without any problems. Then i play it online, and it syncs my data without asking which save i want to use. I know theres no way to get my data back, but how do i stop it from using the cloud save
even when the local save is newer?

Hey Game King,

Thank you for responding. Unfortunately, not all games give you the option to choose between local and cloud saves. Since the cloud syncing is automatic, there is no way of stopping it from downloading your latest save. For more info feel free to check out

Hi! Thanks for the reply, but that didnt fix it. Some games like Forza Horizon 4 ask me which save i want to load, but the game i have the problem with didnt and just loaded the older cloud save instead of the newer one. Its an xbox one game by the
way, not 360.

Hello Thegame,

Thanks for coming to the forums with your question. When you are connected online it will automatically save to the cloud. It will not ask you when online. Only games that ask you are backward compatible but you can only select cloud save when connected
online. Usually when the offline save is newer when you start game it will sync that one to the cloud. You can try being in the game, go online then see if it syncs with offline save.

1) Are you asking if its possible to just have your save files on your local Xbox storage instead of the cloud? If so, then yes!

2) Your Xbox will always "synchronize" with your cloud saves and download them to local storage when you sign into Xbox Live (which is automatic). When your gold membership expires, your Cloud saves are still safely accessible. You will be able to download
them and move them to your local storage. While your account stays non-Gold, however,
you will not be able to overwrite Cloud-saves or create new saves in the cloud. (source)

Sorry to hear this has happened. The best way to check if it's a local issue or an issue with your profile is to

1. Disconnect your Xbox from the Internet

2. Launch a game

3. Play for a bit and make a local save

4. Exit the game and reconnect to the internet

5. Boot up the game again. If a cloud save is detected,it will ask whether you want to use the cloud save or the local save. Select the cloud save and hopefully it will be recovered.

Otherwise your best bet is to contact Xbox Support https://support.xbox.com/en-US/contact-us#0 .
