  1. Xbox updates - Why is there not a better warning system?

Why is there no warning for Xbox updates when they are coming, except when it says to Update Now, Stay Offline, or Turn Off Console? I'll be in the middle of Sea of Thieves with a ton of loot on me, in the middle of an Athena voyage, then: boop! Update
time! Time to lose everything! These quests take 4-5 hours average solo for me, and the loot I really need comes at the end, so turning it in as often as possible is no suggestion to make.

Why for an update must we suffer? Yeah, this would work fine if I was playing an offline game, but if I'm in an online server, let-alone, an online-based game... why? There needs to be a warning on console for this. Even if there is somewhere here online or
somewhere I can check when an update is coming, this is still no help, as I have to check the page before it happens, and often since I am a part of the Preview Program if that was the case.

I shouldn't have to leave the Preview Program to avoid updates happening so often to better avoid this issue, there should be something much simpler and fair. So what is the deal with this? I didn't mind it back on Xbox 360 when I played games where it didn't
really matter, but now, this is becoming irritating, and a massive time thief. I just wasted 4 hours to receive an update and lose everything and all progress.

    :)

    Level reset?

Sometimes it isn't intentional. There are people who have lost their connection (I believe someone posted something like this above) and reconnected to find out that their stats are gone. Rather than warning people (who may or may not see a warning on forums
or other places) why can EPIC not come up with a better solution?

  3. need help from microsoft

Which is why its so much more awesome, there was no warning that hey if you download the beta and then your xbox malfunctions and you send it in to be repaired microsoft will just send you back a refurbished xbox and not wa rn you oh this isn't the same
xbox or don't purchase anything because we will just keep the money. Didn't see that warning, oh and even better, its cool though becuase were gonna roll out the update for everyone but we just can't let you no when that'll be...but thanks for the quick 50.
If any individual or other company did that it would be called theft or a scam but hey its microsoft. It not my fault they sent a refurbished xbox and didn't say that, there was no warning for that. But I do appreviate the nothing can be done thing, and
I hope microsoft enjoyed the free money

Xbox updates - Why is there not a better warning system?

That's a good question, I don't actually think there is come to think of it.

It might be a good idea to maybe make a mention here - Xbox Ideas, powered by UserVoice

I cant see why it wouldn't be possible, or even if there was a postpone button

  5. Will do, just need to know one thing... I looked at the Categories, which would best suit the title "Better Xbox System Update Handling (Warning/Postpone)", since it has to do with updates... "Console Hardware & Accessories" since it affects the hardware,
or "Home, Xbox Guide & Settings", or which would you recommend? There isn't really one that suits it that well that I see.

  6. Hi there,

The only time I've ever had an update forced on me was because I took too long to install it (waited days to do it on a computer). Never had it happen in the middle of a game.

You can check to see if you have the console set to automatic or manual and you can change that.

Go to the guide > Settings > All Settings > System > Updates. Then if you want automatic make sure Keep my console up to date is selected. If you want manual, make sure it's not selected.

On manual you'll have to do the updates on your own, and after a while the console may force the update on you.

My console is set to automatic updates so the updates install when I first launch the console after an update has been released.

If you want to know when updates are coming in the preview program - keep an eye out

    here
    .

  7. Alright, this helps, but will it notify you that you have an update pending, or does it simply wait until it's time? (Also, I appreciate the information, thank you very much! This is extremely helpful. Highly appreciated!)

Xbox updates - Why is there not a better warning system?

That's weird. I've had the console since launch and play every night and have only once had to stop for an update. If it happened all of the time that would be annoying. There should be a warning of sorts.

  9. It happened to me just a couple days ago, and again just now, both times I was in the middle of an Athena voyage, I unfortunately didn't know about the option for automatic updates. I wish this was brought to my attention during the set-up process or something,
    not so hidden-away.

Still, warning notifications could better manage these situations for people that either don't know or want the update as soon as possible but don't know when it's coming. Also, having to check a web-page is a bit much for something that should be more simple
    and less confusing.

For me, this works for now, but it is still a bit much. Probably could avoid a lot less Support calls with people screaming about this as well, and making their ears ring. Could save a decent few ears, you know?

I would maybe suggest in Xbox Insider Program (assuming you're enrolled in the Xbox Insider program and receive the updates before public release.)

What Mistress Sara has said is also a good thing to do, it buys you a few extra days and the reddit, however adding on to your idea; I cant see why that when the updates are pushed out, it doesn't tell you how many days or hours you have before you must
    install the update.

Personally I would support that idea, as at least then we have something to mark down and won't risk getting shut down in the middle of an important situation Xbox updates - Why is there not a better warning system? :)

  12. As a streamer, some nights, actually a lot, I don't sleep. I have a tendency to stream for 35-45 hours or even when I'm not, just play for long periods of time like that, and this happens. Also, as a part of the Preview Program, I get updates more frequently,
so this happens quite often and is very irritating.

  13. Xbox updates - Why is there not a better warning system?

That could make sense since it affects us more, but since a postpone option is slightly unnecessary as Mistress Sara said there is an option to turn off automatic updates, I've changed the subject to "Xbox System Update '(Detailed) Warning Notifications'",
which should be under "Home, Xbox Guide & Settings" now.

Also, I'm slightly surprised nobody has made a post about this yet, or not that I can see anyways (on UserVoice).

I appreciate the suggestion though, but since I've changed my topic, this category is more fitting. Thank you for your suggestion though, even though I had to change some things. (Greatly appreciated!)

Additionally, I appreciate that you'd support the idea! Thank you!

  14. I think I have obtained all the information I needed to make the post on UserVoice and mark this as Solved. Thank you everyone for your replies, and I appreciate them all very much!

    * Thank you SuperDan9001 for the suggestion to post on UserVoice, the link to do so, and letting me know you support the idea

    * Thank you Mistress Sara for the suggestion to better avoid these situations for now

I will now mark the answer as Solved that I feel will help anyone with this same struggle, since it is technically solved by this answer for now.
