    Xbox TV/Cable HDMI Question

Hi - currently have the xbox one w/out a kinect. Some questions I haven't been able to confirm:

    1. From what I gather I can't change channels without the kinect. True? (seems it'd be easy for them to allow use of the controller to change channels - so that seems weird).

    2. Sounds like it's for "live tv" in that I would not be able to access the DVR or On Demand content from my time warner set top box. True?

    3. There is only one HDMI port on my set top box. So using that to plug it in to my xbox (and not having a cable directly from the time warner box to the tv) would forbid me from switching to the time warner cable (to watch DVR/on demand) since there is
only one HDMI cable going into the TV (thus I can't switch from 'cable' to 'game' mode on the TV)

So if so - it seems the options are to 1) not use the TV feature and just plug my cable to the tv, 2) switch the cable when I want to use time warner menu, 3), get a new set top box w/2 HDMI outputs.

Am i understanding this all correctly? Much appreciated...

    :)

  2. Xbox One X for 1080p gaming?

I do have a question. I know the console comes with a 4K compatible HDMi cable, do I need that hooked up if I have a 1080p TV? My cables are all run through the wall, thats why I ask. Hoping I can get the texture updates and all of that without the 4K compatible HDMI cable thats included and just use my Xbox One S HDMI cord.

    Xbox 360 and HDMI

How are you displaying your Xbox 360 - with or without an HDMI cable? We just bought a new TV today (yay! lol) and since it's HDMI capable, we bought an HDMI cable and hooked the Xbox 360 up with it. Man, does it make a WORLD of difference!

    Xbox TV/Cable HDMI Question

That I'm aware of, there's no HDMI CEC support on Xbox One. To change channels requires an IR transmitter, something that the controller lacks (at least, not that it has exposed as usable). A Kinect is required to change channels using either your voice
or the SmartGlass app if you want to use the Xbox One to make those changes, but you can just as easily use your existing TV remote with your box. The HDMI pass through does not stop you from using your existing remote.

Note that HDMI pass-through does not work when the console is powered off, neither in Instant-On mode nor in Power Saving mode. Xbox One will need to be on for you to watch TV if the cable box is plugged into the HDMI input on the Xbox One console.

The pass through is not enough!

If you change the standard list of TV programs than it does not fit to the Xbox. Channel change needs a lot of time. If you e.g. change to a channel at position 100 Kinect send 1 0 0. This takes time. And you cannot simple switch up and down trough the channels.
I need only aprox. 20 channels. But because of not changing the channel order (see above) some of them are at 300. Not acceptable!

Just to chime in and reiterate what the other guys were saying:

    1. You cannot change channels on your cable box without Kinect. The Kinect acts as an IR blaster, sending the channel-change, or other commands to your cable box. You can still use your existing cable remote to control your cable box, but the OneGuide on
the Xbox won't know that you changed the channel, since you didn't change it from the Xbox. Meaning, if you pull up the OneGuide, it won't show your current channel. Again, if you're using your cable provider's guide and the cable provider's remote, this won't
be a major issue. When using the Xbox Controller to change channels, it still tells the Xbox to send the signal using the Kinect, so you still wouldn't be able to change channels using your Xbox controller without the Kinect.

    2. You can still access your recorded shows using your cable provider's remote. Essentially, the cable box will work exactly as if it was plugged into your TV, except now it's being passed through the Xbox. You won't lose any functionality. The negative
(if you want to call it that) is that the Xbox has to be on to watch TV. The positive is that you can multitask while watching TV (using other apps, or snapping apps while watching), you also free an HDMI port on your TV/AV receiver and you no longer have
to switch inputs to watch TV or play games as they're both on the same input now.

    3. You don't need a different, or additional HDMI port on your cable box. All that would change on your setup is instead of plugging the HDMI cable into your TV, you'd plug it into the Xbox. The Xbox has an HDMI input and HDMI output. The input is where
it gets the TV signal (from your cable box HDMI) and the output is what plugs into your TV or AV receiver.

To summarize, you won't need any new hardware. You simply need to plug the cable box HDMI into your Xbox, plug your Xbox HDMI into your TV and you're set. Then just go to the TV app on the Xbox when you want to watch TV, followed by using your cable provider's
remote to control the cable box as you have in the past.

    Hopefully that clears everything up!

Thanks all! Biggest thing I was missing was that you can still use the native cable remote when accessing through xbox one. Much appreciated!

    HDMI mode not supported

If the Xbox is working with the same HDMI cable on a different TV, then that would lead me to believe the HDMI port on the TV in question is bad. I had a bad HDMI port on my TV as well that just went out one day. If it works on another TV with the same
HDMI cable then I would say the Port on the TV has quit working.

Xbox One and Digital TV Question

    Hello C0nd1t10nR3D,

How the Xbox One works with being able to control the TV is that the Xbox One has a HDMI In port and a HDMI Out port. If a person had a cable set-top box, they would take the HDMI cable from that and plug it into the HDMI In port on the Xbox One, and then
connect an HDMI cable to the HDMI Out port and connect that to the TV.

In your case, I think it could only work if your TV had both a HDMI Out port and a HDMI In port. If this is the case, which I don't ever think I've heard of a thing for just a TV (I guess it could be possible), then you would go from the TV's HDMI Out port
to the Xbox One's HDMI In port and from the Xbox One's HDMI Out port to the TV's HDMI In port.

I hope I have answered your question!

Playing my device at another house

You need a connection to the internet with your Xbox not with TV. By cable or by wi-fi. Or your question is about Xcloud? Also, off course you need monitor or TV and HDMI cable to connect it with Xbox.
