Xbox turning on at random times (but the on light does not come on).

Hi, the xbox one has two different type of standby:

- instant-on: the xbox search for updates during stanby and this could be your case, with this setting you can also activate it remotely

- energy saving: the console is in a more deep sleep

If you want change this setting you need to follow these steps: home -> settings -> power and start-up -> power mode and start-up -> here at the top of the middle column you can find the two above type of standby

My tip in general is to completely disconnect all electronic device if you plan to not use them for some time, during standby the xbox (and all other electronic devices) is still connected and its life could be affected if it is always powered

as a test you could remove the network cable (if it is wired up) or remove the wifi settings before turning it off and see if it stops doing it, its more than likely the instant-on option causing it when its doing updates, if you remove any disc from the
console before its shut down as well then it shouldnt cause the drive to spin up hopefully

I had the same question a couple of days ago and I was adviced that it could be due to power surge, so we moved our xbox and tried to plug it some place else and it seemed to have stopped and doesn't power itself on anymore - although we are still ovbserving
things.

Maybe try plugging it to a different socket or if it is plugged in on multiple socket extension wire then plug it directly to a wall socket and hopefully that should help.

if the console is set to Instant-On then it may be downloading updates (for games or console) depending on the settings.

This may result in the console making different noices.
