Microsoft Game Studios' Phil Spencer led a presentation at SXSW over the weekend and reiterated the company's commitment to Xbox, allaying fears that the division might be sold off. Which is nice.

Polygonreports, "In a funny way, our job is to create great games on Xbox, on Windows, on Windows Phone, and the stuff that happens above the studios is kind of just 'stuff' to a lot of the studios... In terms of Microsoft's commitment in the space, I know
both [new Microsoft CEO] Satya [Nadella] and [head of Microsoft's Devices and Studios division] Stephen Elop, I know them well. I've had explicit conversations with them about Microsoft's commitment to Xbox - they're extremely committed to Xbox.

When they think about it long enough, even Sony's most vicious MS hating fans will be happy about this (Like there was any real doubt) because video games thrive on competition. If Sony were the only player... where would the effort come from?

Cause you know, they would totally tell us if they were thinking of selling the console. Cause that wouldn't shake some people's faith and cause more problems selling it therefore making it less appealing to potential buyers. Yeah, they would totally be
upfront about it.

That being said, I don't think any of us know one way or the other or will know until either the xbox one gets sold, or it gets through its "natural lifespan" without ever being sold . Just saying that just cause they say that really means nothing. And
until we have insiders willing to leak out information (and not because they are making "official statements") will we have any clue either way. And you'd still have to trust those insiders were telling the truth (and were actual insiders ).

That's true, but I don't think a company who is picking up ex-Sony Santa Monica employees are thinking of selling the Xbox brand. Like you said though, we will have to wait and see.

Sounds good. I said on a previously locked thread, that it needs to stay with Microsoft, but the just need to alter a few things, and change tact slightly. Microsoft do not need to worry IMO

Console generations are not solely about launch, It is the long haul, but even back in 2012, a few pubs were saying the last gen went on too long. Now the new Gen is out, we are seeing some terrific new IP's and Multi plats come out. (and some of the same
old crap. LOL)
