I was always kind of curious about the fears when Elop was announced as head of the devices department. Everyone was freaking out because he had mentioned possibly selling off Xbox, Bing, etc (basically all of the devices group) if he were made CEO of MS.

While he may actually have sold off Xbox if he were CEO, he's not. He is head of the devices group, which means if he gets rid of the devices, he gets rid of his own job. As CEO, his responsibility would have been to make MS as profitable as possible. As
head of the devices group, his responsibility is to make the devices under him as profitable as possible. That includes Xbox.

This is all GREAT to know. But he doesn't decide this. Only the major investors and shareholders can persuade the board in this matter!

Exactly. The new CEO has stated otherwise, so I'm going to be a bit skeptical until I hear otherwise from his mouth. Phil Spencer isn't the one calling the shots, but he would be the first one selected for damage control.

I think it will stay with MS. I think it's too hard to pull apart and sell. Also who is going to want to buy it? It would also mean MS would be changing tact from the services with premium hardware model they've been pushing on with. Xbox is still in a strong
spot but not strong enough for MS to make a profit from the sale.

Sounds good. I said on a previously locked thread, that it needs to stay with Microsoft, but the just need to alter a few things, and change tact slightly. Microsoft do not need to worry IMO

Console generations are not solely about launch, It is the long haul, but even back in 2012, a few pubs were saying the last gen went on too long. Now the new Gen is out, we are seeing some terrific new IP's and Multi plats come out. (and some of the same
old crap. LOL)

That's true, but I don't think a company who is picking up ex-Sony Santa Monica employees are thinking of selling the Xbox brand. Like you said though, we will have to wait and see.
