Xbox To Require Sign In Every 5 Years To Maintain Gamertag!

Oh what an evil company, xbox SUX, games are of poor quality, wouldn't buy another one even if I had sextillions of euro's.

Kinda funny and pretty much none of the "new school" Xbox Forum goers would know but this was a Topic about 9 years ago. It was asked if 2 years was too soon. Most landed around a consensus that 5 years was about right on no activity.

Good to see MS finally got around to something talked about a decade ago.

 

^Now that you mention it, I seem to recall something like that. It may just be a way to make it easier and smoother for them to automate the process of releasing old GTs, rather than just dumping them out in huge chunks.

 

I wonder if this means they will never do another gamertag recycle and all the remaining gamertags in limbo will reset in 5 years?

Oh well, it's a good change, they've needed something like this for a long time.

 

I still manage to log into my Nintendo account once a year, and haven't owned a Nintendo product since the Game Cube. 5 years? Seams O.K. to me.

Some people seem to be linking this with having a gold subscription, but that's not the impression I'm getting. Surely you can still be a silver but just log in on xbox.com to verify that the gt is still in use.

This seems fair. At least it's not 24 hours or 12/24 months. No point in creating an account if you're not going to use it. But.... if we log on, on this site, or Xbox 360, or Xbox Scorpio when it comes out, or the Windows 10 PC Xbox App, or Xbox 360 smartglass
or Xbox 1 smartglass, that technically should count as using your account. I think Microsoft are trying to spread Xbox stuff on more devices rather than just console, and I think they're doing it well.

 

Everyone who thinks gold and regular under a month log in. Hmm, my other activities which sometimes take up a week. Wife, cross stitch, house, pets, family, 5e D&D, and others. Some times I find simpler to turn on the tv and binge watch old movies than log
into a game.

 

It should be brought down to 2 years, especially if there is zero gamerscore.

my opinion is zero gamer score 2 years, gamer score 5 years and you would only lose gamertag anyway, all purchases are on the actual account associated with the purchases so should not affect anything else.

 

In all seriousness I don't think it's a bad idea, kind of like psn where almost every name you can imagine is taken. Doing it this way might also avoid the XBL Profiles for sale on Ebay.

 

I've maintained my Gold subscription since February 2011, a few months after getting Xbox. Renew every February. But I think this is a good idea. Me and at least two dozen of my friends play Xbox everyday. Some may not even appear online for weeks, it's
like they've given up Xbox. But everyone has commitments. School, work, sport, etc. If a name is taken, just add some numbers to your name. Getting the 12 month subscription off XBL is much cheaper than the monthly/every 3 months option.
