    I just purchased an Xbox One S and im trying to set it up but ive been stuck on “Checking for updates...” for a long time. My wireless internet connection is working fine and ive also tried wired. Can someone help?

    Hiya!!

    Sometimes if the cache doesn't clear it can cause hanging of system and game updates I've found from experience. Try doing a hard reset of your XBOX.

    Hi Kelvin111

    Have you tried restarting your console and checking again?

    Are your games installed on an external drive? If the drive is in a low power state, it will need to wake up and spin. This might take a few seconds. Then the console will start searching the drive for your games and list them in the updates section.

    If all else fails, try a power cycle as this will clear the cache. Please follow the guides below:

    (A tip from myself:)

    1. Power down your console.

    2. Unlplug the power cable

    3. Press and hold the Xbox logo for about 30 seconds.

    4. Plug the power cable back

    5. Switch on your console

    From the Xbox support site:

    Physically power cycle the console:

    Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off.

    The Xbox button on the front of the console is highlighted.

    Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller.

    Note If you don't see the green boot-up animation when the console restarts, repeat these steps. Make sure that you hold the power button until the console completely shuts down.

    Important If your console is in Instant-On power mode, the above steps will shut the console completely off. Instant-On mode, or the ability to turn on your console by saying "Xbox on," won't be enabled until you restart the console.

    Disconnect and reconnect your console's power cable:

    Turn off the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down completely.

    Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds.

    Important Be sure to wait 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

    Plug the console power cable back in.

    Press the Xbox button on your console to turn on the Xbox One.
