XBOX store membership page opens and then redirects to start screen

The first thing we suggest trying anytime you run into issues with your Xbox One console is a

power cycle to see if that helps. That said, are you trying to purchase an Xbox Live Gold subscription and are being kicked out of the menu? Are you getting any kind of error message or code that you can provide us with? If you currently have Gold status
and it was acquired via prepaid card, you may need to wait until that membership expires before purchasing a new one.

I've checked and my service is active, no problems there.

I've also visited the devices page and it does state that our "Living Room" Xbox is the "Home" Xbox.

When another account is signed in to the Xbox, they are redirected to the Xbox store to purchase a membership, even though all the above seems to be in order.

Any other suggestions?

Forza cannot be opened anymore (the error popup window redirects to the ms-store which forza cannot be opened from either), and the xbox launcher won't launch. Microsoft Store looking for updates runs forever.

UPDATE:
I reinstalled Xbox GameServices and now the game starts again with the error code 0x12c as before

I tried on pc, xbox and phone. Yes i see Castlestorm in store "gold excusive priece free" and redirect to the join page.

wait- I figured it out. you need to go to "add or remove programs" in settings.

then, go to Xbox gaming services.

Then scroll downwards and click terminate.

I'm sure if this works for any other games, but it works for Minecraft launcher.
