Xbox store and steam

Im at a friends house and i want to play a game that he has but i also have as well. The thing is he bought it through steam and i bought mine through xbox store. Is it possible to have a game downloaded from steam and xbox store at the same time ? Will
it work properly?

GTA 5 doesn't have crossplay so No it's not going to work for that game. But other games like astroneer is one that can be played like that.

Im not trying to play together. For example the game is gta5 and he purchased it through steam and his account and everything. I dont have steam. I want to play on my account of gta 5 which i purchased through xbox. If i download the game through my account
on xbox will it cause any problems ?

It has to be an Xbox Play Anywhere title as stated before. You can play with other users like Playstation for example, but thats cross-play which is different.

In this such case. Since you own gta5 on Xbox unfortunately you can only play it on xbox and not pc since it's a different platform and does not have crossplay.
