  1. Xbox standard headset unable to connect properly.

When I plug my headset into my controller, it works and I can mute it and change the volume but when I go into a party, it just says unable to find microphone. My console and controllers are both up to date so I don't know why this is happening.

    :)

My headset cuts out and only works with one controller

    Hey Joe,

When it comes to headset troubleshooting there are a number of things to try to narrow down the issue to the headset or the controller. Does your headset connecting using an audio jack or through a headset adapter?

With the introduction of the 3.5 mm headphone jack on the Xbox controllers, you are able to virtually connect mostly any headset but some may not be compatible due to the

    audio jack standards
    .

If the headset cuts out periodically then it may be due to the audio jack not being the right standard or the audio jack port in the controller is not functioning properly.

To troubleshoot your Xbox I recommend to
    power cycle
    the unit.

  3. What are the headphones in ear with microphone compatible with xbox one??

Headsets with a 3.5mm connector come in two standards: CTIA and OMTP. Xbox supports the CTIA standard for headsets.

3.5mm mic not working but can hear others

    Hi James,

Thank you for responding and keeping us updated.

Apple earbuds are generally not properly supported when it comes to the microphone because the ring around the jack that connects to the mic is located in a different position than the standard that is compatible with Xbox One controllers. The best way to
make con-compatible headsets work is to get an adapter that converts the apple headphones into compatible headphones by converting the headphone standards.

This support article explains all of that in more detail:

    I hope this helps.

How come once I connect a headset to one of my controllers, I can't use the headset for other controllers?

    What headset are you using?

Be aware that there are two standards of headset plugs called CTIA and OMTP. On both standards, the Microphone and ground connector on that plug are reversed.

For a headset to work properly, the headset connector has to be a CTIA standard plug. If your headset is a phone headset (e.g. Apple or some older Android or Nokia compatible headsets), then they use the OMTP standard, and won't work properly.

If you do have an OMTP compatible headset, simply buy a CTIA to OMTP adapter (or since the adapter simply crosses two wires, it is automatically an OMTP to CTIA adapter as well). Also, since the adapter only crosses two wires, these adapters should be dirt
cheap. If a store asks you to pay for this adapter more than you'd pay for a Coffee to Go, you're being ripped off.

Xbox One Controller Headphone Jack Issue

    Hey VindRaider,

I'm sorry to hear about this issue your brother is experiencing with the audio jack not working properly.

If it's a brand new controller then possibly the headset being used may not be compatible with the Xbox controllers. Audio jacks have two different standards:

    • Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA), and
    • Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP).
    https://support.xbox.com/xbox-one/accessories/connect-compatible-headset

The Xbox uses CTIA standard where the microphone section is closer to the end of the cable. If it is not the right standard, most electronic stores sell an inexpensive converter. Does the headset work with other controllers?

There's no way to directly fix this without trying the headset on another controller as it seems it is just a detection issue.

Let us know what headset you are using and if you can try it on another controller.
