Why when I do a speed test on the xbox is it slower then what my laptop reads? Both are hard wired but the speed reading on xbox always results in being a few Mbps slower. I have read issues about latency being high because it goes to the Seattle servers.
Would this be the reason for the slower speed reading?

    :)

I think it's because when you run the test it bounces ( probably a better way to describe it lol ) off a server in America so us in Europe get high latency ...

Usually though the lower the latency number the better, when I last tested from the Xbox Dashboard mine was around 140ms, if I run a speed test from my laptop it's only 5ms which is ALOT better lol

Ok I'm on virgin media with 60mb down and 3mb up and on the dashboard it says latency 159ms now is this good or bad

Choose a different server with your laptop and watch those numbers change. You can only download as fast as the server you're connecting to will allow.

I haven't noticed my speeds changing, but have noticed latency is though the roof. Usually run about 30ms testing states around me. Testing with the X1 gives me around 90 to 107; which is roughly what I get with testing from the Detroit, MI area to Modesto,
CA. If I test Washington state, I'm creeping up to 200ms sometimes.

  7. I get 26ms on my iMac and PC but close to 200ms on my Xbox. I hear it's something to do with the servers being based so far away. Hopefully there is a long term solution for this as I can sometimes get quite bad lag on CoD and I don't want to have trouble
with playing online when my 360 performed so well with every game I bought.

I get the latency prob. It's usually 27ms on the laptop but 160ms through the xbox. Just thought its coz I'm in the uk. My download is around 7mbps on the laptop (not the best I know ) but is around 5mbps on the xbox. Can't wait for the summer when my
    area gets fibre BB.

Well there are 3 server farms one in Ohio, I think Florida and one near Seattle I think. I'm 100% on the ones in Ohio and one near Florida but not sure about the other one

Are they up and running in Ohio? My latency shouldn't be as high as it is with the X1 testing to Ohio.

  11. I'm in Florida & I can vouch for higher than usual latency - I think it's simply the service taxing the console via the Cloud.

I dont think there is a way to check on the server locations itself only as a whole sadly from
support.xbox.com/.../xbox-live-status only MS has that ability it could be totally possible that one of them could be down

    speed / speed test

there are two things to consider 1- xbox download services are currently limited to slowing down due to over-demand, as there are a lot of people occupying servers 2- their internet provider should be limited their download speed for the same thing so
that should be the cause of their problems

    speed / speed test

    Hello Brad,

Thanks for replying. I have already had my ISP out to my house thinking it was a modem problem (4/6). I have done everything i can on my side to try to figure out why this is happening (please read my post again). My ISP tech and myself had both done speed
tests on both my PCs , xbox and their equipment and all the speed tests come back within the range that my internet has run for 8 years. I can watch netflix and such through my xbox but when I try to download or update a game something in my XB something is
throttling my internet down. Like I said above, I thought it might even be my modem in my xbox gone bad so I went and bought a brand new XB 1 x today (4/7 $350.00) and in the set up update it took 2 hours to get 6 percent so it is the same on a new one as
it was on my old box so I hooked that one back up and watched 4 hours of netflix through the XB this evening. I have run speed test wireless and wired through my router as well as running the XB directly through my modem and it is the same. The last thing
I did was on 3/25 or 26 was install the insider hub to download space engineers beta. I started downloading it at 1 am ish and at 9 am the next morn I had only downloaded 8 percent. I uninstall the hub and my XB has not been the same since. whatever is happening
it is strictly tied to gaming on the system. I am not a noob when it comes to this stuff though my knowledge may be out dated (A+, network+ and Inet+ certs back in the early 2Ks) I have a pretty good grasp on at least the basics of how this all works. So my
ISP blames you because because all the speed test come back fine except for the gaming side of XB and you say its my ISP, leaves me stuck in the middle with no gaming. Might you have anything else i can try or look at? Pretty bored without my gaming.

    thanks in advance

    Hello Painless,

Thanks for reaching out to the forums. We understand you have issues with low speeds. This sounds like an ISP(internet service provider issue). Either the equipment in use like modem/router/gateway or satellite itself. Reason I say this is download speeds
are never lower than upload speeds its usually upload is the lower one. We recommend working with your provider upgrade router, lines etc.

    Thanks,

    Brad

have you called your provider to make sure they are not slowing your speeds .

Or get them to test your connection.

As said it could be down to the amount of traffic on the system at this time 🤔
