Xbox Slim repeatedly powering on and off when plugged in!

I purchased myself an Xbox 360 Slim a few months back in hopes that it would operate better than the two malfunctioning Elites currently collecting dust in my closet right now. Sadly, my hopes have been squashed. More than a month ago, my Slim began powering
itself off randomly while I was playing. Usually when I'd restart I would have to reset my HDMI settings back to 1080. I assumed it was a connection issue. I tried different HD cables and used the Xbox provided ones. The problem not only persisted afterwards,
but worsened. With the console plugged in, the system would turn itself on and off non stop. After an extensive diagnostic search online (Yes, I sure did check to see if the lights on the power brick were correct. No, it was not an issue from my HDMI cables.)
I came up with about zero solutions to my problem. I decided to buy some compressed air from the store and thoroughly blow the system out. This solution seemed to help so long as I kept a fan next to the console at all times when playing. I use the fan when
I sleep, so if I move it away from the console, it will resort back to its deviant antics, and I'd have to unplug. This decidedly unnecessary routine mostly worked for some time, but now, even with the fan, repositioning of the console, and another unplugging
everything session, my Xbox is behaving worse than ever. I am almost 100% certain that it is an issue with the sensor. Which pretty much means I need to send it in for repair or buy a new one. I don't want to do either one of those things. I already took it
apart anyways. I'm just looking for some sort of help. I have been a huge Xbox supporter for several years now, but I am very unhappy with the functionality of my consoles. I love my Xbox games enough to buy another one, but I've about lost my patience. I
had to restrain myself from making this post almost absolutely vulgar and profane.

    :)

    Identify used xbox console

Well a slim is pretty easy to identify with it going Ding when you turn it on. No but you can identify what it is buy the plug in for the power in the back of your xbox, each type has a different plug in. Such as these here. *1939-9fada5d5bf112daef38fe049aace77b0.jpg*

    xbox slim restarts randomly

okay well, my xbox slim (4gb/no hard drive) I've had it for about two months and it's been working perfectly until yesterday. It was fine all day but I brought it home from my girlfriend's house and after playing for about an hour it shut off. I thought
maybe it was overheating but then I put a fan actually in front of it until it cooled down a little but then I plugged it back in and without turning it on manually it turned itself on and off again and it does that repeatedly if it's plugged in and I turned
it off for the night, went to school the next day and when I came home I plugged it back in and it was still doing the same thing.

If a fan stopped it turning on and off then its clearly an overheating problem.

    Is the internal fan running?

It definitely sounds like it needs a repair from microsoft, but as its been opened they wouldn`t touch it.

  5. Do you have your power brick in a well ventilated area too? It could be your power brick if any of the fans are covered. My 360 did that a while back, two of the fan slots were covered because I had my power brick by a wall, and it overheated.

If not, best to get a repair set up. If you just bough it a couple months ago, it should still be under warranty.

I know it is not an overheating problem. The thing with the sensors, is they are sensitive to the heat from your hand. That is why you don't even have to completely touch the buttons to activate them. The portable fan I used more than likely kept the sensor
from being "Tricked" into being touched due to the cool air. That was my reasoning for using it. Again, it is without a doubt in my mind an issue with the sensor. I am not the only one who has experienced this problem. Plus, If it was an overheating or poor
ventilation issue, the console would not turn itself on randomly. My Xbox has been turning on and off while I'm typing this. I haven't even played it today. I just plugged it in like 10 minutes ago.

Sounds like a similar issue that actually plagued the original Xbox consoles. That issue was in relation to contaminated console motherboards. I am not saying it's the case but maybe the board of your xbox 360 console has corroded. Not saying this is the
case but the symptoms of the console turning on and off randomly are similar.

Again, I'm pretty certain I know what is wrong with it. I'm not looking for a diagnosis. I want to know how to fix it.
