Xbox slim 4GB suddenly won't play apps or games (either disc or downloaded), but dashboard ...

So, this is really weird. Tonight, my xbox slim 4 gb stopped launching games. The system works, I log in to xbox live, I can go to the marketplace, I can see ads and everything, but everytime i start a game or app, the screen goes black and everything hangs.
I can then push the xbox button and the system menu comes up, but since the system keeps hanging, all I can really choose is the shutdown option.

I cleared the cache on all my drives twice (i have 2 32GB usb sticks in there, and ofcourse the 4GB system storage), and still nothing. No red rings, no powerbrick failure, no nothing. Everything works accept launching games or apps. Anybody got any idea
how to fix it? Is it just me? Did Microsoft bring out a faulty update? Everything worked perfectly last night, and now, 24 hours later, nothing.

It goes to the xbox dashboard but it won't let play a game either one from a disc or saved on my console. It also won't play apps

And literally, just as I finished typing this post and turned my Xbox on again, a message appears that I needed to update my xbox. What is going on? Hoping this fixes my system, because it is pissing me off!

 

Never mind, the update was for internet explorer, no system update. I can download games from market, I can see trailers for movies, but games won't start.

This just happened to me today also. I have an xbox 360. I get xbox live on the TV but when I try to play a game (using either disc game [skyrim] or what I have downloaded to my hard drive [civilization and poker]), all I get is a black screen. I was
using it around 8am Pacific time and it worked but when I logged in around 2:30pm. could not get a game to launch. Unplugged everything, did the 10 second hold, cleared the cache but those did not work. It looks like all of our problems are on the same
day.

 

There is another thread about this. Yeah it is annoying as hell and no one will say what this issue is from.

 

OK. I contacted Xbox support and here is what he had me do and it worked.

Have console on. Press on/off button and hold down for at least five seconds. Then disconnect all power cords (wall, to console, etc.).

Reconnect and wait for amber/orange light.

Try your game again. It worked for me.

The tech did say that a number of people have been reporting this today, so you kinda gotta figure......

Soooooo not working still. I did the ten second hold. Unplugged everything and.... When I plugged it back up and started it? No dice. We gotta figure this out.
