XBox sign-in does not support passwords longer than 16 characters

After receiving a security alert, I changed my Microsoft password to a nice, secure, 17-character password. But the XBox 360 only accepts the first 16 characters, and drops the rest, so I can't sign into my account. This seems stupid. Why is the password
input field limited to 16 characters? Especially if the underlying system accepts more?

    :)

Check your password if its longer the 16 characters then the you can not sign in on 360 console the 360s does not like passwords that are longer then 16 characters if it is try changing password to something less then 16 characters and it should allow you
    to sign in.

  3. Password too long

The xbox 360 does not accept passwords that are longer then 16 characters so if you password is longer then 16 characters then that is your problem and would need to change your password to something less then 16 characters.

No matter how long you make up your password, a password can eventually be leaked or otherwise be stolen.

If you REALLY want to make your account absolutely password proof, turn on Two Step Verification and set up the free authenticator app on your smartphone.

    This has two advantages:

First, even if someone gets hold of your password somehow (e.g. a keyboard sniffer on a computer in an internet cafe during your holiday trip), without the additional code that is generated by your phone, your account can't be accessed. So an account hijacker
would also have to physically steal your phone as well.

Without the phone, there is no access to your account.

However, since the Xbox 360 can't work with the two step verification code yet, you generate an additional App Password on the Two Step Verification site, and use THAT on the Xbox 360 instead of your regular password.

And since that app password can't be used for regular account access (only for special apps or devices like the Xbox 360), you are double secure, even with a "short" 16 character password.

So please use Two Step Verification in addition to your password to make your account "bulletproof".

  6. As Arminator say passwords can be easily taken and used fraudulently so use the two step verification to keep your account safe. They are trying to make it easier for you so you only have to enter the first 16 characters

  7. Hey, all! Arminator has got the right idea here to protect your account the best for your Microsoft account. Outside of that, you will want to post on the
Feedback site to bring this feature to Xbox 360s. It's likely that the request is already posted, so be sure to search for your idea before posting it.

Since there is no troubleshooting that we can do for this issue, and it's a feature request, this thread will be locked. If you need assistance with any support issues, please post up a new detailed thread so that our community can work on helping you out.
    Thanks for understanding!
