Xbox shutting down while networked

    Xbox shutting down while networked


    So I'm going to describe symptoms and hopefully someone can enlighten me.

    We have a 1x in wifi with an Asus router and plugged into a Samsung 4k. No problems for like 2 years.

    Past couple days the Xbox keeps shutting off. Both in menu and in games, just turns off like it's going to sleep. Only difference I can think of is we installed Kodi on a tower to act as DLNA server for the Xbox to browse from. That part worked fine, but
    since then it's been turning off randomly. We thought it was overheating except there's no errors and it's never hot. Found a comment online about certain routers causing issues... Ours hasn't changed at all in years.. but hey let's try it. I disable network
    connection in the Xbox sells... Behold! Continuous play all day with no shutdowns.

    Big question? What is it that the Xbox is responding to that allows it to be told to turn off? I'm considering tossing Kodi and trying Plex instead.

    I've had good luck with Plex, but that's an aside.

    With the old router back on and Kodi shut down do you see the same issues?

    Have you updated the Firmware for the router to the latest version?

    There are a couple things that could cause it, and it could be a network call and response to the server that the Xbox picks up and interprets as a network shutdown command, things like that have happened. I remember hearing about something like that with
    Nintendo Switch and Roku or something (I believe I hears about it on Waypoint Radio podcast a few months ago? I could be wrong.)

    Let us know, and I'd say, if Kodi being off does seem to resolve the issue, and it wouldn't be too much trouble to migrate to Plex, it has my endorsement (for whatever that means).

    I'll see if I can find more about that and if there is a fix.

    I like the account with Plex because it enables me to share the content of the server remotely with my friends account , so the can watch what's on the server without having to be connected to my network.

    Update: Tried plex again. Eventually had the same problem as was happening with Kodi. While it's installed on a machine on the LAN, the xbox randomly shuts off.

    Uninstalled Kodi. Re-enabled wifi on the Xbox. Works fine.

    Tried Plex. Did not like how it's attached to having an account. Would like the server to be a bit more standalone. May try messing with Kodi again. Still no idea how the Xbox is receiving shutdown commands.

    No there really is no danger it that happening. I leave mine on instant on and have never had an issue. I guess it could cause and issue if it were doing some update and the power failed but again I have never had any issues.
