Xbox Series X Wireless Headset audio lag during cutscenes

Does anyone else have an issue where their Xbox Wireless headset will constantly skip and lag audio during game cutscenes? I first noticed it with Psychonauts 2 and thought maybe it was just that game, but now I am having the same issue with Halo Infinite. The strange thing is outside cutscenes it rarely happens and the headset normally has no issues.

Trying to see if it's a known issue or maybe I have a faulty one? Below is the headset that I have:

Xbox Series X Wireless Headset audio lag during cutscenes

    Hello LowC_439,

I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with audio lag during cutscenes. I also have the Xbox Wireless Headset, and I've used various headsets on my Xbox Series X, but have not experienced this issue. It could be some of the settings either with your TV or audio from the Xbox.

    On your console:

Turn on your headset, then go to your audio settings by

    • Pressing the Xbox button
    • Navigate to your profile, then click Settings
    • Under General go to Volume & audio output
    • Under Headset audio click the drop down and choose a different output. Perhaps the setting you are on is causing the issue.
Check the headset settings in the Xbox Accessories app. On Xbox X|S and Xbox One consoles, you can access the Accessories app in the Settings menu: Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories.

Check your TV settings, see if there is any latency or if it has a game optimizer mode.

Series X and wireless Headsets issues

Has there been any update to this issue? I am having the same exact problem with the new official Xbox Wireless Headphones.

Its really bad when playing Gears of War 5 with all the cutscenes every few minutes. It just stops playing audio, cuts in and out, repeatedly. Audio goes out of sync during cutscenes, too, like a bad chinese kung fu movie with horrible dubbing. The game audio outside of cutscenes goes back to normal.

Navigating system menus also generates a lot of audio distortion!

Doesn't matter if I use the Windows Sonic profile, Dolby Atmos profile, etc.

I updated headset firmware, I am running the latest Series X firmware, etc. Etc. None of that fixed it.

Anyone have any ideas on if/when this will be fixed??

Series X and wireless Headsets issues

I have the exact same issue, same headsets too. I bought the Turtle 600 gen 2 and had this issue, then bought the new Xbox Wireless Headset, hoping it'd work better, but it doesn't. Exact same symptoms -- playing a game like Gears 5 or Metro Exodus, with a Series X and the new controller, any cutscenes will have audio stuttering after 10-20 seconds. If I move the stick on the controller, the audio comes back... and then stutters again after 10-20 seconds. This is repeatable and consistent. Standard (release) Series X software, latest updates applied to controller and headsets.

It's a known problem since launch, lots of reports, and lots of comments that it's being fixed in a future software release. Clearly this hasn't been fixed yet. So, is there any workaround, other than connecting an old Xbox One controller? Does it matter which audio codec is used (I'm using Dolby Atmos)?

It's not local RF interference, I've minimised that too, and ensured I have line-of-sight to the Xbox. And given that it is clearly reproducible and directly relates to whether the Series X controller is being used, and doesn't matter which headset I use, it definitely seems like a Series X problem.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

Will XBox Series X support external DAC/Amp hardware via USB?

There are multiple articles stating audio compatibility via USB. If optical is necessary, there are various HDMI to optical devices available which you may need to add.

"Some gaming headsets that utilize an optical cable may require a firmware update to support game and chat audio over USB on Xbox Series X. Soundbars and headsets that do not receive updates may be connected
directly to your televisions optical port."
