    Xbox Series X: wired Internet connection repeatedly drops


    Basic facts:

    1) wired Ethernet connection, 1GIG-rated (realistically more like 800mbps, tops). Internet is working fine on other devices when this problem occurs. Under Settings, everything that is set to Automatic than can be, is. Cable is 6e.

    2) XBX will simply not recognize an internet connection sporadically. This can happen every minute or so up to every 10-20min. The machine will show it's not connected, it'll reconnect, then dump the connection again.

    3) standard troubleshooting set (reboot internet equipment, hard reboot XBX, both) performed. Does not fix the problem.

    4) this has been happening since it arrived over the weekend and I set it up. There is no clear pattern. The outages themselves seem random.

    5) attempting to set it up using my Wi-Fi doesn't accomplish anything, because it'll drop the wi-fi connection when it re-recognizes the hardwire connection.

    6) running tests on other devices to see if there's some interruption of service shows this isn't happening on any other device in the house.

    I am sorry to hear about this issue. It looks like there might be an issue with some hardware on your console, specifically with the network adapter. Here are some steps that we can try:

    1. Change Power Options on your Xbox:

    a. Profile & system > Settings > General > Power options. If it's on Sleep, change it to the Shutdown (energy saving) option. If it's on Shutdown (energy saving), change it to Sleep option.

    2. Power Drain (Xbox)

    a. Make sure that your console is turned on then unplug the power cable at the back to turn it off.

    b. Press the power button for about 15 seconds even though it's already off. (This will remove the remaining power on your Xbox)

    c. Wait for 2 minutes and plug the power cable

    d Turn on console and wait for the dashboard to appear

    3. Restore your console to factory defaults:

    To factory reset your console, follow the steps below.

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide

    2. Select Settings

    3. Select System

    4. Select Console info & updates

    5. Select Reset console

    Please select option 2 which is keep games and apps:

    1. Reset and remove everything

    2. Reset and keep my games and apps

    3. Cancel

    I have had similar problems with my sons series x dropping internet connection and the only way of curing this was connecting the console directly to the router with an Ethernet Cable. It now works with no issues. I hope this helps.

    And to add my sons Xbox one worked perfectly on our WiFi with no issues but the series x has issues, I’ve no idea why it has these issues but the cable sorted it.
