    Xbox Series X - Wired Ethernet Setup Issue


    My Xbox refuses to connect with an Ethernet cable.

    I have tried:

    1. Setting IP settings to Automatic and restarting the Xbox and the router. After re-plugging everything.
    2. Manual settings, pulling DNS server, Subnet mask and gateway from ipconfig on my windows machine.
    3. This Ethernet cable also connects to my work computer and has never had an issue. I have plugged it in a bunch of different times because that's what this dumb diagnostic tool thinks is the issue. Even after resetting the router.
    4. Ever since the 360 setting up a basic wired internet connection has been a pain. You'd think a multi-billion dollar company that developed Windows would have something better by now. Pretty embarrassing progress over 10 years.

    Set up issue

    Are you using a wired or wireless internet connection?

    Try a wired connection (ethernet cable) to your network hardware and restart the console. It should connect and do the required OS update.

    If wireless choose a factory refresh of the console. After the refresh is complete, input the console setup details again.

    Setup new Series X S has further details.

    I have one Xbox (Series X) wired via Ethernet. I can play on WiFi with no disconnects but I prefer a wired connection for gaming.

    For this game you need to be online

    After reading others people’s posts who are having the same issue, it seems this may be a wired networking issue. I unplugged the Ethernet and connected via wifi and it works fine. The wired connection issue with the series X is widespread and Microsoft needs to address this.

    Is Tech Support there just to ruin consoles?

    If you explain what the issue is maybe I or others here on this forum can help you get the console back to a working state.

    Are you getting any error codes? What are they?

    What version of console? Original, xbox one, S, X, Series S or X

    WiFi or wired ethernet network connection?
