  1. Xbox series x - weird crash / handshake issue

    Hey there.

I just wanted to ask about the issue I occasionally have on my series X. It will just randomly freeze the image and display an array of horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen. The sound will continue as normal, so if I press the home button and move around the menu I can here the sound effects of buttons etc. If I switch to a different hdmi source and switch back it fixes itself. It’s clearly a handshake think, but it happens every few days and it’s annoying.

The ps5 & switch do not have this issue and I’ve tried several hdmi 2.1 cables and it does not fix it.

Is this a known error? Anyone else had this?

I’m wondering if it’s a software thing that will be fixed with an update- or is it more likely hardware and I should look to replace?

    Many thanks

Hello, how are you? My name is Mateus. I'm an Independent Advisor and I'll be glad to help you today.

First I'm sorry you're having this problem.

    Try the solutions below, please.

    Solution 1:

You can also hard reset the Xbox One console and its cache. Here is how to do so:

Step 1. Press and hold the Xbox button on the console for at least 10 seconds to open the Power center.

Step 2. Then unplug the power supply from your console and wait for 3 minutes.

Step 3. Plug the power supply back into the Xbox console.

Step 4. Press the Xbox button on the console to turn it on again.

    Solution 2:

Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.

Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.

    Select Reset console.

On the Reset your console? screen, you'll see three options:

*Select to keep my games and apps if you don't want to lose them.

These solutions can be found on the official Xbox support link from Microsoft.

    https://support.xbox.com/en-us/help/hardware-ne...

*If none of these solutions work, try resetting your TV to factory defaults, or switch the HDMI port you are using.

And even so, if the problem persists, start a repair order for your console on the Microsoft website via the link below.

then the only thing i can think off is the series x you have just does not like the hdcp handshake on your newer tv. its is defo a weird issue.

Xbox Series X November Update broken sound.

    Bitstream hasn't been removed.

Must be a compatibly/handshake issue somewhere.

My series X and s are both on the latest update and DD bitstream is working perfectly.

    Xbox streaming HDCP

Hello, I've unplugged the hdmi cable quite a lot of times at both ends. I've tried all the hdmi ports at various points but it's currently plugged into the only one that supports HDCP2.2 and 4k. It's a Samsung UE48JU6500 fully up to date firmware and software.
Looking into this, Samsung TVs do seem afflicted by this issue since the Series X release. I did find this on another thread which may or may not be any use:

"However, disabling "Allow variable refresh rate" in the Xbox video settings solved the problem for me. Still, this is only a workaround and MUST be fixed with a proper patch."

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/all/xbox-series-x-hdcp-22-handshake-issues/

The thread is about a different Samsung model but likely is the same underlying cause

Xbox series X and LG C2 problems.

No, unfortunately, one cannot speak of clarity in this case, because I have experienced the exact opposite case.

I own the LG C1 and the LG C2, and the handshake problems have NEVER occurred in over a year of use on the C1! Instead, however, they keep coming back with the C2 on the same Xbox Series X console. When switching this console back to the C1, the same picture again, NEVER! LG C1 and LG C2 both support Dolby Vision (for gaming). Before testing the LG C2 with one / my Series X, I had never heard of the handshake issue with Dolby Vision. Besides, the LG C2 works very well, but the Dolby Vision handshake in games can hardly be tested on other devices, because the PS5 does not support this feature and other devices are at least unknown to me.
