Xbox Series X USB ports - power options

There isn't enough power on the bus for the card and the external guessing platter HDD

You need to get a powered USB 3.0 hub, that comes with an external power brick

This was the first time I've had issues with it. I set the system up when I had the original Xbox one around 2015 or 2016 and the USB port layout has stayed the same when I switched to the newer Xbox Series X. The only difference was the switch from a USB 2.0 hub to a 3.0 hub

Since the Xbox Series X has more up to date USB ports, I doubt it would be a lack of distributed power

USB Port Layout:

x1 - USB 3.0 HDD plugged directly into the port on the Series X

x1- USB 3.0 Hub 4-Port (Not independently powered by a power brick)

1. USB 3.0 SteelSeries Headset receiver

Hi, Power stays on on both USB ports.

The external drive runs silently so hard to tell if it is on or off but the fan stays on constantly when Xbox is powered down.

That explains a lot thank you. I was hoping to have the USB powered fan power on and off with the Xbox (it is in a cabinet, open to the front) and I wanted to move the air about and out as the series X produces a lot of heat drom the top vent and the area
it is in gets very warm.

As I cannot do this now (thank you for explaining the reasons why) I will power the fan from a different power supply and use the old fashioned finger on a switch to turn it on and off.

Only way to do that is get a usb older then 3.1

Usb will alway run you dont know that ?

PD is a normalized standard for usb type c

And you dont want rhe drive turning off and on all the time thats how drives die sudden loss of power causes rhe heada to crash which physically damages the platters

And ita very very low voltage anyways

Your microwave or alarm clock uses more power then usb c
