Xbox Series X - Updates and Game Downloads Pause While in Instant On Power Mode

Turn it off? How can it download if it is off?

There are two power modes on Xbox One:

Instant On:

In instant-on power mode, your Xbox One, Xbox One S, or Xbox One X console is up to date and ready to use. In this mode:

Your console automatically downloads updates.

Your console starts up in two seconds.

You can wake the console using a voice command (where available).

To update your console automatically, select the Instant-on setting to keep your console, games, and apps up to date.

Energy-saving:

In energy-saving power mode, your console is shut down to save energy. In this mode:

Updates aren't downloaded and installed until your console is turned on.

Your console takes 45 seconds to start up.

You must press the Xbox button to start the console.

If you have long downloads, we recommend you use Instant on mode. With this mode you can download games overnight or whenever you are not using your console like when you're at work for example.

Note that if you start to download a game and then start playing another game, the download will either be paused or download much slower than if you were not playing a game.

I'm having the same issue but with my series X. Downloads fine while on but as soon as i turn it off (in instant on mode) everything stops

It's under settings, then power options. You can choose instant on or low power mode.

If you are in instant on, trying this:

[Assertively speak to the Kinect] "Xbox" [pause 1 second] "On".

Go into settings then select the tab that has power. There you will find the option to put your console on instant on and be able to select download updates while in instant on mode. Hope this helps.

Power mode instant on means your Xbox goes to sleep and will download game updates, app updates and console updates while its "off" - it will have some tasks that login and check but it uses very low power to do so - it will also answer "xbox on" in this
mode.

Power mode energy savings means the xbox does actually turn off, it won't download updates while off, it will prompt you to download them when you play a game or launch an app that has a pending update. In those mode you actually see the green screen during
bootup and it takes a little bit longer to start.
