Xbox Series X TV Settings for my 4K TV showing confusing information under TV details?

    Good morning Xbox Team!

I received my Xbox Series X yesterday and set it up with my Samsung 4K TV (55 inch, Model NU8000). This is a 4K/60hz tv, HDMI 2.0 (full UHD on all for HDMI ports).

When looking in my 4K TV Setting Details it shows 4K UHD at 60 hz under resolution, however under the "Playing Games" section it says "Your TV set up supports up to native 1440p at 120 FPS."

Does this mean the Series X is maxing out my resolution to only 1440p for ALL games I am playing or does it mean if I wanted to play a game that offers 120 FPS I could do so but only with a resolution lowered to 1440p?

It's just confusing the way it is worded because I should easily be able to play games in 4K at 30 FPS/60 FPS with no problems. Just wanted to clarify.

    Thank you.

    :)

Xbox Series X TV Settings for my 4K TV showing confusing information under TV details?

    Hi,

With your TV set as it is now it will be playing games at 4K 60Hz. If you want this to continue then there is nothing else you need to do.

Your TV is apparently able to output at 120Hz but this is limited to 1440P. This is a bandwidth limitation of HDMI 2.0.

However, your TV can't do 120Hz natively, it can only do it via intoperlation. In simple terms 'it's not real 120Hz' and without variable refresh it's not worth enabling.

hdr 120hz 1080 on my series s with the lenovo y25-25?

From the Xbox dashboard head to 'Settings'. This can be done one of two ways, however, the quickest is to hit the Xbox guide button, navigate to the tab with your profile picture, and select ‘Settings’. From here, you’ll want to click on ‘TV & display options’.

In this sub-menu you should see the option for ‘Refresh rate’ underneath ‘Resolution’. If you have an 120Hz display, you should see the option to select either 60Hz or 120Hz from the drop down. You can double check your Xbox Series X or S is outputting at 120Hz by clicking on ‘4K TV details’. Here you can see whether your TV supports 4K UHD at 120Hz and if your TV setup supports up to native 4K at 120fps.

It’s important to note that most Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S games will default to either quality or performance mode. These tend to fall between 30fps and 60fps, with a third mode usually in place for 120fps.

It’s always worth checking a game’s settings or selecting the correct display prompt that may be in place to ensure you're playing your games at the highest framerate possible. cFor example, Rocket League on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S is compatible with 120Hz displays, however, you need to navigate the game’s settings then go to ‘Video’ and select ‘Performance’ under ‘Video Quality’ for 120fps support.

If you know that your TV has HDMI 2.1 and is capable of 120Hz, make sure that you’re using the cable included with your Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S console or an Ultra High-Speed Cable that’s rated for 4K 120Hz output.

It’s also worth noting that if you’re using a receiver or surround sound system, it might not be capable of acting as a pass through for 120Hz, so connect your Xbox Series X or Xbox Series directly to your TV. Finally, if you’re still not sure if your TV supports HDMI 2.1, check your TV’s manual for more information or click on ‘4K TV details’ under ‘TV & display’ options in the Xbox settings menu.

    Hope this helps

Directv 4K channels limited to 1080p on Xbox One X

I am having the exact same problem with my C61K-700. In the advanced video input settings and "4K Details" my Xbox One X states that my TV supports 4K content (all the parameters pass as indicated with green checks). I bypassed the Xbox One X and connected
my C61K-700 directly to my 4K TV and it does show up the 4K content. When connected to the XBox One X even though it passes all the checks in identifying my TV as being a compatible 4K TV, when going the the video input and resolutions setting within my C61K-700,
the 4K option is grayed out and states your TV doesn't support 4K content. When bypassing the XBox One X, the 4K resolution isn't grayed out and I'm able to successfully check the 4K resolution and DirecTV channel 104 does display content in 4K and doesn't
downgrade my resolution to 1080p as it does when connected to the XBox One X. I have yet to get a solution from XBox Support in resolving this issue.

Xbox Dolby vision not compatible with my TVs Dolby vision

    Hi there!

Thank you for coming to the forums.

What troubleshooting steps did you try that led you to the conclusion that the Xbox One X is not compatible with Dolby Vision on your TV?

What brand TV do you have?

Did you go into your video output settings and then under video modes and make sure that 4K, HDR 10, and Dolby vision is selected? Then go to 4K TV details to see what your TV supports.

Let us know this information with an update and we'll be happy to further assist you!

4k from cable box through Xbox day one edition

I'd doubt that Microsoft updated the TV app to support 4K, since they tailored everything more towards games.

But users with Xbox One X could try the following: Set up your console to 1080p resolution, but in the Advanced settings under video modes "allow 4k".

That will cause the Xbox One X to switch to 4K if anything specifically requests 4K resolution. If the TV App switches your TV to 4K then, then the X would support 4K set top boxes. But I'd doubt that.
