Xbox Series X system crashes when I load a game disc or try to play any digital games

When I tried playing a disc game (Cyberpunk 2077), it loads and then shuts down - system light still on but nothing happens, tried playing digital game (overcooked) same issue. Sent system into Microsoft for service repair (paid because passed warranty) - got it back within a week or less than 2 weeks - same issue!

I am not sure why or how it can be having the same issue - what did they do on their end?

Now trying to contact Microsoft is seeming quite difficult and frustrating

    :)

Xbox Series X system crashes when I load a game disc or try to play any digital games

    Hello,

    A few questions:

    1. What OS version are you currently on? You can find this info in Settings > System > Console info.
    2. Do you receive any specific error code/message, and do the games crash at the same point every time? Does your console then always randomly power off as a result of this?
    3. Is it all disk and digital games or are only certain games affected? Does a crash also occur when launching any apps (Microsoft Store, Netflix, YouTube, etc.)?
This is a known issue that’s affecting a lot of others. Refer to this article (pinned at the top of the Xbox forum):

Game Release Known Issues for January 2023 - Microsoft Community

Players experiencing unexpected console behaviour while playing or launching a game

    • If you experience unexpected console behaviour such as a freeze, a crash to the Xbox home screen, or your console powering off when trying to play or launch a game, please report the issue when your console resumes again through the Report a Problem app.
Be sure to create a bug report right after the error occurs, so that it can be looked into with all the diagnostic data. You can add [Xbox Forums] to the title of the report, then share this here once complete.

In the meantime, these support guides may help:

Also, if you have any external devices or peripherals (storage drives, wired controllers, etc) connected to your console, perhaps disconnect these if possible to see if there’s an improvement. If the games are installed directly to the internal storage, try installing a few to an external drive (or vice versa) - just don’t disconnect this.

Keep in mind that games optimised for Series X|S need to be installed either on the internal SSD or on the Seagate Expansion Card You can install optimised games to an incompatible drive, but you won’t be able to launch/play these.

    Hope this helps.

    Xbox One Series S - I'm confused

You have names mixed up. There are no consoles named the Xbox One Series S or Xbox One Series X.

The Xbox One/One S/One X all have a disc drive.

The Xbox One S All Digital Edition does not have a disc drive.

The Xbox Series X has a disc drive.

The Xbox Series S does not have a disc drive.

All the consoles can play backward compatible games. The Series S and One S all digital edition can only play games digitally downloaded.

The other consoles can play games from disc and from digitally downloaded,

I hope this clears things up for you.

Backward compatibility download size and number of times required to download it

    Hi,

The Xbox One can't read and run the data directly from BC 360 game discs. The games don't run from the discs like they would on a 360 console.

When Microsoft made these games BC, it took the original games, and without getting into all the technical details, reverse engineered and repackaged them as a digital downloads so that the Xbox One can play them. This is why as Smwutches as already stated,
there is an 'Update' when you insert a BC disc 360 game into your console. This isn't an update, it's actually the digital version of the game.

This is why your 360 game 'updates' are around the 8-16 GB sizes. Still comparatively small compared to the average Xbox One digital game download.

The BC system for 360 games on the Series X will have to work the same as there is no other way to do it.

However, the Series X is architecturally similar to the Xbox One, so Xbox One games will install and play on Series X just as they do an on an Xbox One console.

Why has my series x stopped reading certain discs again?!

I invested in a 500$ Xbox that is supposed to do all that. I shouldn’t have to buy a standalone player when my Xbox is being advertised as such. if I didn’t want a disc drive I would of gotten a digital only console. And it only plays certain Xbox one games and older ones as well which Is bs. It wouldn’t load street fighter anniversary But it loaded doom it wouldn’t load resident evil 2 but it loaded battlefield 2 lol. All of my discs are pristine the series x disc drive has just been bricked by Microsoft to force people to digital
