Xbox Series X static fan speed

Hi all, new user on the board here. You all have helped out with a lot over the years on the Google search bar lol.

I have a issue I couldn't quite find an answer for, so I thought I would sign up and ask for some help.

Xbox series X.

The fan doesn't ramp up like it used too. It's just one static idle speed. No noise, no rattling. Just on. It turns off and on properly with the console. Is it just a failing fan? The environment it's in is ideal. Away from everything, open, clean, and regularly maintained.

Things I have tried:

Clear cache under blue ray

Reset network mac

Left it unplugged over night

Used it on my LG 4k tv to try and pull the fan up

Used it on my LG 1440p to do the same thing

I have seen a lot of complaints about fan noise but coming from a higher end pc, I would much rather have more noise than a dead part.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is my son's Xbox and it can't be stuttering in warzone or Fortnite! Haha.

I'm having the same issue, fan one static speed literally silent, and my Xbox keeps fail safing. I have great ventilation also

It's having a heat issue.

Games will stutter and sometimes it will failsafe and turn the Xbox off.

I think you're worrying something at you don't need to. The Xbox Series X when placed in a location with good airflow should be virtually silent. It will remain virtually silent no matter what game you run on it. Mine is. The top of the unit will be pretty warm during operation and this is entirely normal and how the system was designed to operate.

Putting the console in a lower resolution is not necessary to reduce heat or wear and tear. In any case, the actual rendering resolution in-game may be higher than the screen resolution, so changing the console resolution in the settings will have no effect. You won't get a cooler console running on a 1440P display as apposed to a 4K one. It's not like a PC.

I own a Series X and a my own built gaming PC. I built my PC with the idea that excess heat is removed from the rear of the unit. My fans are quality and even if my RTX 2080 graphics card hits 82C (yeah that's pretty toasty), my PC still doesn't become loud.

So please, stop worrying and enjoy your console.😊

im having the same issue. sent the product back for repairs, and was told all systems were tested and checked out. console came back and fan fails to spin fast enough to pull heat away from components. games regularly stutter and have obvious overheat issues. why would Microsoft and Xbox not put out a solution to slow fan speeds in a firmware update?

If the XBox is turning itself off on a regular basis when gaming, then it does sound as if there is a fault there, in my opinion.

As to the fan, I have never noticed a difference in the fan between idle and having been gaming for 5+ hours so a lack of fan noise doesn't necessarily mean it's going wrong...it's not like a PC where it is going to start sounding like a jumbo jet on takeoff when it gets warm.

If you have done everything possible such as a factory reset etc, then it might be prudent to have it repaired...just go into your Microsoft account, look for the device in the registered device section and start a warranty repair process.
