Xbox Series X/S controller not pairing to Windows PC

Okay so I have been searching for an answer for this issue for DAYS now and every option turns up empty so I will literally not rest until it's solved. Recently bought a new Xbox controller, the Series X/S wireless controller, and have had issues with it not being able to pair with my PC. The controller works fine plugged in but I specifically bought it to be wireless, expecting it to work the way it says on the box. I have the newest version of Windows 10, the controller is updated to 5.5.2641.00. I've held the pairing button until it vibrates, an pretty much tried everything you could think of, but the device will not connect to my computer wirelessly. Please help.

The Series S and X controllers work on same devices the earlier controller can connect to. This includes:

Xbox One Game receiver for Windows 10

Bluetooth (PC, Android, iOS)

Xbox One, One S, X and Series X/S.

i just had the same (or very similar) issue with an series x/s controller, what fixed it for me was to forget the controller from my paired bluetooth devices and re-pair it.

I've never needed the wireless adapter because I'm trying to use the bluetooth way and have done so before.

do you have the wireless xbox adapter for pc plugged in (needed for wireless connection), or are you using bluetooth on the pc (needed for bluetooth connection to the controller).

the following three ways to connect the controller:

1. USB C cable

2. Bluetooth

3. Wirelessly using the xbox wireless adapter for windows 10 (about 24.99 from retailers)

Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X controllers work on Xbox Series X|S, and vice versa. However, Xbox 360 is on it's own, similar to the OG Xbox.

What's cool however is if you remote stream Xbox One, One S, One X, Series S, or Series X on, say, a PC, you can plug in a 360 controller and use it on the newer generation.

But no, newer controllers aren't supported on 360.
