Xbox Series X/S Controller Bluetooth Not Working After Latest Firmware Update

im on firmware 5.11.3118.0 for xboxc series S controller - latest, been on for weeks, before the problems with constantly disconnecting & reconnecting to the console after the latest console update about 2 weeks ago.

tried the controller firmware rollback via xbox assist, when you check the firmware it just says something went wrong - its on the latest firmware.......

The Series S and X controllers work on same devices the earlier controller can connect to. This includes:

Xbox One Game receiver for Windows 10

Bluetooth (PC, Android, iOS)

Xbox One, One S, X and Series X/S.

The latest Xbox controller firmware update may affect Bluetooth connectivity and performance with some devices. If your controller is having Bluetooth-related issues after a firmware update, you can choose to revert your controller to an earlier firmware version and see if it will resolve the issue.

On your Xbox console, press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then go to Profile & system > Xbox Support > Get help > Help topics > Hardware & networking > Controllers > My Xbox controller has connection issues after the last update. Select Check your controller’s firmware to open the controller firmware reversion screen in the Xbox Accessories app, and then follow the instructions in the app.

So they say that if you go back and revert the firmware it should fix it…

Please try reverting the firmware on your controller to the previous FW by following these steps on your Xbox console.

To do this, Navigate to My Games and Apps, > Apps > Xbox Assist > Articles > Console & Accessories > "My controller has connection issue after the last update" > Check controller firmware > Revert Firmware

I just wanted to say thank you for the revert instructions!

The latest firmware update makes bluetooth capable Xbox One controllers misbehave as bluetooth controllers. For example, the guide button presses "up", and the d-pad no longer works at all (tested on Windows 10, Mac and Android). Some games didn't detect these as a controller at all after the firmware update.

So while the revert didn't work for my Xbox Series X controller (same "Something went wrong" as LukeMQ), it did work perfectly for my bluetooth capable Xbox One controllers. They now work properly on Windows, Mac, Android etc. as they did before.

Huge relief, thanks again Thisguy23. Look forward to a firmware update that adds the nice new device switching features without breaking bluetooth compatibility.
