Xbox Series X - Remote Play on iPad Pro

I have an Xbox Series X, and I am -trying- to use Remote Play on an iPad Pro (2nd Generation).

My two devices are on the same network, I have tried over Wifi, and over Ethernet (1Gbps on local network as well as 1Gbps internet), with both devices plugged in to a switch directly connected to my router (Eero pro), and no other devices streaming etc...

We have no known networking issues on our local network, we can stream 4K content on 2 devices at the same time, while video conferencing on another laptop.

The video quality of Remote Play is horrendous, the resolution is low, and it keeps breaking up - some parts of the screen get out of sync and don't update for a few seconds. It looks strangely similar to issues VNC has when it can't keep up and whole parts of the screen don't update.

In addition of the video not updating properly, the colors are atrocious and appear much darker, it looks nothing like what I see on my TV. Please don't tell me the iPad Pro's display is the issue here, the colors on that device are fantastic, and yes, I tried turning brightness all the way up.

I don't understand how the latest version of the Xbox, coupled with an iPad Pro, can't provide a smooth experience, on the same network (again, I tried both Wifi and Ethernet)?

Xbox Series X on latest available software update as of 01/28.

Thanks for reaching out to the forums! I am linking the Xbox Support site concerning Network Latency which I believe is your issue. Troubleshoot remote play gaming | Xbox Support . Please scroll down to "Network Latency" and follow the instructions to potentially fix your network issue. Please check back and let us know if this fixes your issue.

You should post the model of router and switch

There are transceivers that have compatibility issues.

You can set the quality of your stream as well. I have little issue outside of some minor lag when I do something unexpected

I have a Series X and a One X and the streaming quality when using remote play on the One X is far superior (as is the PS5 streaming quality). The One X also records better video captures for up to 5 minutes and the Series X barely manages 1 minute.

Microsoft hasn’t attempted to fix this yet as evidenced by the fact the new streaming app doesn’t even have the option to prioritise either higher quality or lower bandwidth streams like the older one did.

My first guess would be that they use a low bandwidth, highly compressed and low resolution stream by default no matter how good your connection is to minimise latency and work in a wider range of home networks as you used to need a very good network to avoid any glitching. They seem to have struck a better balance with XCloud itself which delivers a higher quality stream and ostensibly it uses the same hardware as the home consoles. XCloud isn’t a real replacement though, you can’t play all that many games on it

But the fact it’s been more than a year without change and Microsoft never gives a real answer on this issue leads me to believe the hardware itself may have some limitation and can’t capture and compress effectively without tanking fps.

I have the Xbox Series X and was playing remote play on my Surface Pro 6 , it won't load up every time I try to do remote play on my surface and I'm not near my Xbox

I just tried the xcloud service directly from my series s and it worked absolutely flawless.

Now I am even more confused than before.

Why can I play cloud games directly from my Xbox in an astounding quality but it is not possible to remote play from Xbox to pc/ipad.

But what confuses me even more is that it works perfectly with ps remote play.

Just tested steam remote play from the PC to the iPad and that also worked wonderfully.

Maybe it's an general problem with the series s/x consoles?
