Xbox Series X - Randomly dropping WIFI network

    Hi all,

I have the Xbox Series X for a couple of weeks now, however noticed that during online play, I occasionally loose my Wifi connection (1-3 times per hour averagely). This is strange as I have a stable connection, and none of my other devices is experiencing
    the same.

Sometimes, this just leads to a couple of seconds severe lag (as the console quickly reconnects), but on other occasions I am completely kicked from the play.

Doing some research, I noticed the Series X has several Wifi related problems at the time, but I am not 100% sure mine is included among the "known and waiting for a fix", hence the post.

    Thanks!

    :)

Xbox Series X - Randomly dropping WIFI network

Hello there @RvE88, I hope everything is going well!

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Xbox Forum support. I want you not to worry about the situation because I am here to help you out! I believe your console might need either a network reset or just a system refresh. I would like you to go through
the following steps to clear the Mac address and then perform a quick power cycle on your console:

Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate Mac Address > Clear it and the console should restart. It would definitely help if you could restart the internet router while the console is restarting.

After going through the troubleshooting steps mentioned, I invite you to perform a quick power cycle by turning off the console and then unplugging all the cables. After 2 to 3 minutes, re-plug them back again, then restart your console.

Another thing you should check is your NAT type. I would like you to check your NAT type if open because that could sometimes interfere. to check for the NAT type you can follow the steps below:

Settings > Network Settings > NAT type => It should be open.

If the NAT type is not open, you will need to open some ports with your internet provider. These ports must be open for Xbox Live to work: Port 88 (UDP) Port 3074 (UDP and TCP) Port 53 (UDP and TCP) Port 80 (TCP) Port 500 (UDP) Port 3544 (UDP) Port 4500
    (UDP).

In case the issue still persists after the previous steps have been performed here is the official link to all the network troubleshooting steps that can help sort this out for you.

The link: Troubleshoot your Xbox One network connection | Xbox Support

In case the issue still persists, the next step would be to perform a reset on the console. To do so you will need to follow the steps below to perform a reset on the Xbox :

Settings > System > Console Info > Reset This Xbox > Reset and Keep my Games and Apps.

Note =>The "Reset and Keep my Games and Apps" option will not cause losing your games, but please be aware that you need to be completely aware of the email address as well as the password of your account before going for it because it will require you
to sign in to the account.

I wish you a lovely day, and I hope this helps you out! All the best!

    Kind Regards

    Stay safe, and happy gaming!

Hi! My name is Pam. I'm an Independent Advisor and I'll be glad to help you today.

I'm sorry to hear that. Have you tried moving the console near the router and use an ethernet cable?

    Hello @AyetheCaptain!

With issues like these, I would suggest few fixes that can help with this matter. Please give it a try and let us know the results!

Clear Mac address: Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate Mac Address > Clear it and the console should restart. It would definitely help if you could restart the internet router while the console is restarting.

    Test your network connection:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings.
    3. Select Test network connection.
If the connection test is successful, your console will connect to the Xbox network. If the connection test is not successful, select the appropriate error message on this page to troubleshoot the connection error: Troubleshoot network connection errors

Reset your console: Select System > Settings > System > Console info > Select Reset console > Choose Reset and keep my games and apps.

Note =>The "Reset and Keep my Games and Apps" option will not cause losing your games, but please be aware that you need to be completely aware of the email address as well as the password of your account before going for it because it will require you to sign in to the account.

Also, I would recommend checking Troubleshoot your network connection speed | Xbox Support article as it can be helpful.

I see. This time, I'll be providing you a step to restore your console to its factory defaults to remove all potentially corrupted files that can interrupt you from using the console’s full potential. Nothing to worry as everything will stay intact, you just need to sign in using your account. No games or apps will be deleted. Make sure you know your emails and password, okay?

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

Select Settings > System > Console info > reset then keep my games and apps.

My xbox series x keeps randomly dropping wifi

I have moved my console nearer to the router, it only started having these issues after it had been nearer to the router for over a month. I can't move it any closer to the router than it currently is and I don't have ethernet ports. It was working well and had a good internet connection, and even now when it is connected it has a good connection however it drops out randomly despite the internet not dropping out as other devices do not have issues at the same time.
