Xbox Series X - Problem with Dolby Vision

Hello everyone,

I just want to report my experience with Dolby Vision on Xbox Series X.

I own a Sony TV, 55 inches X900F.

The TV is 4K 60Hz fully capable TV, supporting HDR 10 and HDR Dolby Vision.

The Xbox is connected to the TV using HDMI 3, which is the ARC HDMI, normally displaying 4K 60fps with HDR10.

Two days ago I purchased the license for Dolby Atmos (headphones), which unlocked and installed the Dolby app on the Xbox.

Yesterday I was browing inside the app, and among the different settings, I noticed the tab for Dolby Vision.

At that moment, I forgot that Dolby Vision is currently available only as part of testing for Xbox Insiders, so I inadvertently clicked on ''Setup'' under the Dolby Vision section.

A message prompted, redirecting to the main Xbox settings, under TV & Display Options.

When it entered in the options page, the Info Banner on my TV popped up showing 1080p as the resolution (normally shows 3840x2160p).

From that moment, the maximum output resolutions selectable (under Display - Resolution) were 720p / 1080p / 1440p.

1440p was particularly surprising because is not even a resolution contemplated by the TV.

Switching among the different resolutions was causing the image to be shown as thumbnail (not using the full extent of the display).

Under Setup - 4K TV Details, all voices were with the red dot. Normally I have all green checks, except the three voices linked to 4K 120Hz.

Restarting the console did not help, the console was then loading up at 1080p max resolution.

I thought it was a HDMI cable problem, so I switched different cables but without result.

I then proceeded to have the console reset (keeping apps&games) and finally the issue was resolved, with the TV now handshaking correctly with the Xbox, receiving the 4K resolution, and all checks under 4K TV Details section were correctly shown.

Funny thing, under Volume & Audio Output, Windows Sonic was automatically restored for the headphones (instead of Dolby Atmos previously selected).

I am not sure if I was the only one experiencing this issue, or if it is a bad combination between Dolby Vision not being fully implemented yet on Xbox and on the Sony TV.

I just wanted to raise this technical issue, maybe suggesting that until Dolby Vision is not fully ironed out on the Xbox, to remove the option ''Setup'' for the standard users, to avoid any other similar situation to happen.
