Xbox Series X, playing a game for extended period, then switching to dash/another game, no...

This issue has been plaguing me on and off for months now. Switching to another game after playing one for a while almost always results in the audio in the latter experience being missing or extremely broken (missing to the largest extent)

    The repro is as follows:

    1. Start Xbox fresh
    2. Start 1st game (today, it was Party Animals)
    3. Player for a few hours or so
    4. Either quit 1st game or leave in standby
    5. Switch to another game
    6. RESULT: Either no audio on latter game, or very, very limited, popping
    Points of note:

    • This is absolutely not tied to a specific game: has occurred across all games
    • This is not my speaker or television: those devices function perfectly on other experiences immediately after
    • This is not an issue with the HDMI slot: I have switched my XSX to other slots, issue reproduces
    • This issue is not related to the state of 1st game: whether quit entirely or put in standby, issue reproduces
    • The issue persists even after console reboot: switching the console off and on does nto resolve this. If I power down the Xbox for the night (approx 8hrs) then it will resolve.
At this point I cannot think of any other thing to do, when it does this, I go into Xbox audio settings, my TV audio settings, nothing seems to resolve this. I have to power down my Xbox for a long time, and if I return the next day, the issue resolves itself.

Any thoughts on how to counter this? It's extremely frustrating as it prevents me moving between games.

    :)

Do you have a link to the official thread of the "known issues" where I can see this? Because this has been occurring for a long time, so I'd like to know that this is an issue being worked on. It basically totally ruins my gaming sessions, as I can play one game, and then as soon as I try another, there's no sound.

Also I am able to update my console without challenge online, what does the offline updating do?

    Hi, Nth.

I can suggest some things you may want to try on your console. However, they may or not work because as mentioned earlier, this is a known issue.

In case you are willing to try them, I'm going to share potential solutions below:

    1. Factory reset your console:
Go to Settings > System > Console info > reset > select “Keep my games and apps”

Note: Make sure to know the email and password for every profile registered on your console, you need to re-add them after this procedure.

    2. Perform an offline update on your console.
This potential fix requires a USB drive and a PC to transfer the files to it:

    Thanks for your time,

    Arturo.

Hello, Nth. I'm Arturo, and I'll be glad to provide assistance with your inquiry today.

I'm sorry to hear you're having audio issues when switching games. Actually, I was reviewing the list of known issues, and found this:
“Some players have reported intermittent audio issues across the dashboard or when launching games or apps.

Workaround: Reboot the console and games should launch normally.”

    Reference link:
    https://support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/settings-updates/whats-new-xbox-one-system-updates

As the Xbox team recommends, please report the problem with advanced diagnostics. Make sure to include information like audio setup, when this issue occurred, troubleshooting steps tried, and other relevant info.

Once you get the Report a problem app, you can proceed by following these steps:

Press and hold the Xbox button, and then select Report a problem to launch the Report a Problem app.
    Select Report new problem.

If you’re experiencing an audio or video issue, you can provide additional info and diagnostics to your problem report by selecting Reproduce with advanced diagnostics. Otherwise, select Continue with standard diagnostics.
Note, If you select Reproduce with advanced diagnostics, continue with the instructions that are found in the section, “Report a problem with media tracing.”

Choose the most appropriate category and subcategory from each dropdown. If you’re not sure what to choose, make your best guess.

If you have a screenshot or game clip with your issue, ensure that Include screenshot or Include game clip is selected.

You may be prompted to complete your report another way:

If you select Use another device, you can use your mobile device to scan the provided QR code and continue from your device. This is helpful if your problem report has a lot of details that typing with the virtual keyboard on console may prove difficult.

If you select Continue on console, you can continue through the steps in this section to submit your issue from your Xbox console. You can use a USB keyboard, the Xbox Chatpad, or the Xbox app on your mobile or Windows device to submit the details of your report.

Note If you’re using a virtual assistant such as Cortana or Alexa, bring up the keyboard for each text field, and then press the View button to use voice-to-text.
Enter a short title for your issue.
Enter a description of your issue. Consider the following questions when deciding what details to include:
What is the problem or unexpected behavior?
What steps did you take to encounter the problem?
What additional software, hardware, or accessories were you using when you encountered the problem?
Were there any specific error codes or messages you saw when you encountered the problem or behavior? If so, what did it say?
Select Submit. It can take several seconds for your problem report to send.

Yes, I'm sorry, I didn't properly share the known issues link in my first reply, only the one of how to report a problem. However, let me share it again:

    https://support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/settings-updates/whats-new-xbox-one-system-updates

Under the “release date” text, expand the “known issues” category.

Besides that, the offline update reinstall the Xbox OS but using the files on the USB, this is helpful in case a factory reset doesn't solve a software issue.
Please note that the offline update doesn't remove the content installed on your console.

Rebooting does not solve the issue. The audio remains muted unless the system is powered off and left for many hours (largely I need to leave it off overnight). I have attempted closing the game, closing all games in standby, switching to a different third game, rebooting console, switching console HDMI port.

Of all of these, the only one that temporarily does anything is HDMI port switching, however it isn't guaranteed, and the same issue will occur in the new HDMI slot. I have put the XSX in every one of my 3 HDMI slots, and it will inevitably happen. This suggests, to me, the issue is the Xbox hardware, and not the television. Reliably the TV, the speakers, and the HDMI slot/channel all function as expected with all other devices plugged into it.
