    XBOX SERIES X OVERHEATING AND SHUTTING OFF WHEN PLAYING X/S ENHANCED TITLES


    I got my series x about a month ago from GameStop and every time I play a series x/s enhanced games for 30 minutes to an hour my Xbox shuts off because it overheats. My Xbox is stationed vertically on an empty table and is complete unobstructed. It’s plugged directly into the wall in the coldest room in the house and it’s by a window that leads to the outside (I live in the northeastern US so it’s cold this time of year). I have no idea what the problem is but it only overheats on x/s enhanced games like R6 siege, forza horizon 4, falconeer, outriders, ac Valhalla. But games like for honor, destiny 2, ESO, ark survival evolved and dragon age I can play as long as I want with no issues (and some of them like for honor, D2 and ark have increased performance on the series x). I’m assuming it’s something to do with the graphics/cooling system. I’ve contacted Microsoft and the rep said to fill out a service request and send it back but I’d like to exhaust other options first before trying to get it repaired. Who knows it could be a software thing that’s being worked on, any and all advice/info would be helpful.

    If you are using external cooling fans, stop. All you’re doing is putting strain on the system.

    The system is already designed to cool itself properly, and around very specific airflow. If you’re getting an overheating message without a jet engine fan, that likely means it’s died, which is why it’s overheating.
