  1. Xbox Series X not recognising Dolby Atmos / DTS:X 5.1.2 sound-bar’s capabilities.

I’ve just purchased and set up a LGSP9YA soundbar (5.1.2 ch Dolby Atmos/DTS:X enabled), but unfortunately my Xbox Series X does not seem to recognise its capabilities, and so I cannot set up Dolby Atmos.

I have a PS5, Sky Q box and XSX all connected to my LGC1 TV’s HDMI 2.1 (4K@120Hz) ports with HDMI 2.1 cables. I then have another HDMI 2.1 cable coming from the TV’s eARC port to the soundbar.

The PS5, Sky Q box and the TV’s in built streaming apps (Netflix, Apple TV etc) all recognise the soundbar’s capabilities; Dolby Atmos works perfectly with all of them.

The Xbox seems to be the issue here. I’ve seen a lot of people experiencing problems with their Xbox and Dolby Atmos regarding sound delays / silence, but I can’t even set up Dolby Atmos in the first place. The Xbox just says that my soundbar is only capable of stereo audio. It’s really disappointing. Any ideas?

And before anyone suggests to connecting the Xbox straight to the soundbar and then out to the TV… don’t.

    :)

Another XSX Dolby Atmos sound delay post. . .

Thanks for your reply, but that has obviously not resolved the issue.

I've done a few tests regarding the apps.

When the CX has eARC on and Digital Sound out set to passthrough and Allow Passthrough setting is ticked on the XSX, the sound bar is not recognised as an atmos capable device, but Netflix, Disney+, blu-ray player and the Dolby Access app all send atmos signal to the soundbar with no noticeable delay. No atmos sound in the XSX menu or in games is able to be played only the other sound format (not DTS-X though).

When the CX has eARC turned off and digital sound out set to passthrough the XSX recognises the soundbar as a Dolby Atmos capable device. The soundbar then receives atmos audio, however delays are now introduced in everthing mentioned above apart from the Dolby Atmos app. The sound delay in this situation, seems not as bad as when the the CX has digital sound out set to auto.

When the CX has eARC turned on and digital sound out set to auto the XSX recognises the soundbar as a Dolby Atmos capable device, however everything has a delay introduced. Strangely Netflix and the bluray app seemed the least affected, but the Dolby Access app and Disney+ it was quite noticeable and in games it was worst.

    Hello Andrew Nugent,

Welcome to Xbox Community Forum. Thank you for sharing your concern with us today and we hope that all is well.

Based on your description, you are trying to setup LGSP9YA soundbar to Xbox Series X and LGC1 TV. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner.

Please let us know in which part of set up you are currently stuck as your soundbar or Dolby Atmos is not recognize.

    1. Connect your Xbox console to a sound system | Xbox Support - To connect your Xbox console to a sound system, you'll need to purchase a digital audio (TOSLink) cable.

    1. Leave the HDMI cable connected to your TV for video.
    2. Connect one end of the digital audio (TOSLink) cable to the S/PDIF (optical audio) port on the console.
    3. Connect the other end of the digital audio cable to the digital audio input port on your receiver.

Note Optical audio out is not supported by Xbox Series X|S consoles. Connect your console to your TV using the provided HDMI cable, and then connect your TV to your stereo receiver or soundbar using the TV’s optical (S/PDIF) out port.

    2. Choosing speaker audio settings on your Xbox console | Xbox Support

To adjust your settings, press the Xbox button to open the guide. to open the guide.

Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Volume & audio output. Under Speaker audio, you can adjust the following settings:

HDMI audio - Keep this set at Stereo uncompressed unless your HDMI cable is plugged into a receiver that can process 5.1 or 7.1 uncompressed signals. If your receiver works with these formats, select whichever one best matches your system. Formats labeled “HDMI only” will turn off optical audio (if the optical port is present).

Optical audio - If you don't have an optical (S/PDIF) cable plugged into an audio receiver, don't worry about this setting. If you do, choose a setting that works with your sound system.

Note Optical audio out is not supported by Xbox Series X|S consoles. Connect your console to your TV using the provided HDMI cable, and then connect your TV to your stereo receiver or soundbar using the TV’s optical (S/PDIF) out port.

    Advanced audio features

Additional options can be found under Settings > General > Volume & audio output > Advanced. These allow you to truly customize your audio experience on Xbox. Choose Additional options to adjust settings such as Audio passthrough and Mono output. You can even set your console to automatically mute your speakers when a headset is attached.

    Atmos Problem

Dolby Surround is a upscaler from a not atmos source like 5.1 or 2.0 to surround with use of al your speakers like 5.1.2 or higher.

dts neuralx is the same upscaling system from dts

You had no problem with atmos, you think you had.

Now with the new firmware update the xbox one x is a broken thing with netflix

With a non atmos source the receiver must do the upscaling but now the xbox puts out a 2.0 or 5.1 stream in a atmos package, and no sound is comming out your atmos speakers.
